Worst signing by Allardyce, Lee, Megson or Coyle?

Post by mullayo » Wed May 16, 2012 11:56 am

Saw a BEN article that claiming Megson's son Sean Davis cost us 5.4m GBP at 16,000 GBP per minute of playing time even though he was a free transfer?

He is surely the worst signing of the decade based on cost and contribution?
It made me think who were the other debacles brought in?

Allardyce: Quinton Costa Fortune,
Lee: Lump'o'meat Michalik,
Megson: Sore Davis, Zat Knought,
Coyle: Blake,

What about Dzmelli, Braaten, Rasiak, Jlloyd, Riga, Makukula, Gavin McCann, Vaz Te, Shittu???
What could've happened; did.

That Makakula chap was one of the worst I've ever seen.

I'm going off perceived return on investment here.

Allardyce: Chris Armstrong or Mario Jardel as they probably cost a hell of a lot more than Quinton Fortune in terms of wages.
Lee: Daniel Braaten or Wilhelmsson.
Megson: Shittu or Elmander (wages and transfer fee)
Coyle: N'Gog or Sordell at the minute but that could quite easily change depending on appearances.

It's the high wages and transfer fees. They've all got decent amounts of talent and its arguable that Elmander scored enough to keep us in the league which would repay a lot of the wages and transfer fee but still its £8m that should've been better spent.

CRTL + F = 'Gerald Cid'

Come on chaps, I expected better. He's the only winner of this category.

I was about to +1 this when Braaten and Wilhelmson came to mind. There was also that Con greek aussie chap as well. Kinda makes you feel marginally better about Knight doesnt it :|

See I think Sean Davis would have been a good signing... he's been unlucky but could have been good. Not exactly a Quinton Fortune signing where you know he'll be injured.

Allardyce signed lots of crap that never got near the team.... just filled brown paper bags.... Blessing Kaku, Dwight Pezzarossi... etc...etc..

Con Boutsianis - did he actually get a game for us before being hauled back to Oz on armed robbery charges? There was the Greek Greek bloke Kontsantidis who played one match (one red card too I think).

Wilhelmsson is set to be included in the Sweden squad alongside Elmander for Euro 2012...

Allardyce - Oscar Perez
Lee - Gerald Cid
Megson - Sean Davis
Coyle - Darren Pratley

Cid was signed pre contract by Allardyce... I thought we'd established this ages ago...

Good point, I had tried to block Cid out of memory until this thread reminded me of his spell with us. Did Sammy Lee actually sign anyone himself then? I'm pretty sure the Villa boys were Big Sam pre-contracts too. Just Braaten and Wilhelmsson?

When Allardyce left he made sure he took all the credit for sorting out the Cid and Samuel deals, as though they were going to be groundbreaking. I'm sure Megson thanked him for doing that!

Sir Peregrin of the Greensward, Pelegrino Peregrono or something or other. Big lump of a defender..French?

Injuries can't really count as bad signings, rather unfortunate ones.

Gaetano Giallanza

Now on trial with Brighton, so we may yet see him. I was going to say again but apart from riding the pine once against Charlton I don't remember him getting in the squad.
