Is Bogdan really any better than Jussi??

Post by n035209 » Mon May 21, 2012 1:22 pm

For me Jussi is still the better keeper.

Bogdan does make some game saving stops up close but as does Jussi, where as long distance efforts seem to fly past Bogdan. Grant Jussi does get beat from way out on occasion but I have more confidence in him saving distance shots than bogdan.

Taking the fact that they are both as bad as each other at cross and distrubition, this for me makes Jussi the best choice

Shot stopping (in 18yard box): either
Distance shots (outside 18 yard box): Jussi
Free kicks: Jussi
Crosses: either
Closing down: either
Pens: either
Experience: Jussi
Presences: Jussi
Distribution: Either maybe bogdan

Yup.

Boggers is doing good enough, I dont miss Jussi that much... What we really need is a better defense, not a better keeper

Defence wasn't that bad last season, it just couldn't cope with the waves of midfielders strolling, unmarked into the box.
What a hero, What a man...... Ooooh, what a bad foul...

I was really impressed with Bogdan when he first came into the side and settled In very well.

Having said that towards the end of the season there were problems with the goals he was letting in, it seemed he was saving the more difficult shots and failing to keep out the chances you would expect most keepers in the league to save, especially free kicks!

Now with jussi it seemed he got old and rusty in the space of a week towards the end of last season, he couldnt seem to reach into them corners anymore and was making simple long range shots look like goals of the season, it started last season and ran into the start of this season, I would love to see jussi stay at the club and be no. 1 again but I feel that would be a backwards step.

Bogdan is the future, although a lot of work still needs to be done

Shot stopping (in 18yard box): either
Distance shots (outside 18 yard box): Jussi Sure Bogdan needs to improve his handling, but Jussi has had his moments
Free kicks: Jussi
Crosses: either Jussi has always seemed weak on crosses, shying away behind the defence on corners. Bogdan comes for them, usually dealing with them positively, and seems to command his defence with much more authority; Chelsea aside.
Closing down: either In recent times, definitely the past couple of seasons, from what I can recall, Jussi has dithered and hesitated. Bogdan at least appears committed to his decisions.
Pens: either
Experience: Jussi
Presences: Jussi Bogdan's confidence has grown over the course of the season and he seems a completely different player (in a mental capacity) to the nervous wreck in that Chelsea game. Jussi: when shit hits the fan, shout at anyone and everyone.
Distribution: Either maybe bogdan For me, Bogdan's distribution is far more versatile. He looks to get play moving again as quickly as possible, when the situation permits. Jussi just hoofs aimlessly up the field, regardless of whether KD is playing or not.

Discuss?

These are my views, anyway.

Bogdan is improving all the time, whereas Jussi, whilst still a fantastic player, isn't as consistent/agile/dependable as he once used to be.

Better keeper for me right now still Jussi.

I can understand the idea behind promoting Bogdan because he has the attributes, and since he came back in the second time hasn't been dreadful. At the same time, the possibility of getting big wages off the books seems attractive. If I had to pick one for a one off game tomorrow though, it would still be Jussi. Comfortably.

I don't think Jussi would have made the difference between staying up and going down. Apart from THAT game against Chelsea I can't recall too many goals that were Bogdan's fault, and we probably would have lost that game with Lev Yashin between the sticks.

Jussi's contract shouldn't have been extended back in 2008. If he's not willing to take a wage cut, it shouldn't be extended now.

Read past/present and present/future rather than better/best. Jussi's been a fantastic keeper but isn't the force he was. Never the best at commanding his box or distribution his reaction saves were/are his best feature. Reactions slow with age and IMO Jussi is becoming a victim of that. Not a criticism, just a fact of life.

Still better than Bogdan IMO. I get the Jussi is declining, Bogdan is the future, I just don't think Bogdan is there yet.

Two at Norwich were very dodgy. That said, would be ludicrously harsh to say we went down 'because of' Bogdan. I think Jussi is the better keeper at the moment though, and that was the question.

I think that coyles hand was force near the end off the season he had to keep faith or lose face. I think it would of been a big a decision to replace bogdan with jussi. Personal I would switched it up that spurs home game. Think jussi could of given that little boost they needed.

Having written this would of started sordell as well.

No point dwelling on the past. Jussi has got to be earmarked as a coach, u can see bogdans mannorisum Are identical to jussi.

Plenty off competition for that area. Heard today that Southampton are looking at bogdan, just rumour down here. It's so painful them going up us going down. Don't hear anything else

This. And no doubt had Jussi been in nets for the Stoke game he'd have been blamed for the two goals Stoke scored.....

Personally I'd have had Jussi in nets last season.

However, I'd say that I'd probably not be paying him in the championship.

For me a big mistake of Coyles was to give Bogdan the No1 shirt in a relegation fight , at this point it was surely experience we needed even if Jussi's form had started to go ( and it has )
If you watch Bogdan you can see how nervous he is , which im sure will change the longer he keeps the shirt but a relegation fight was not the time to do it.
He had a shocker against Chelsea , dropped cross after cross against Blackburn and did his party trick , the easy take spill to the feet of the striker against spurs along with many others that gave him the comentators tag of mistake a game granted many of his mistakes he did get away with.
Would many other prem managers have gone with youth over experience in a relegation fight ? I do accept Bogdan has potential to get better and he did get away with many of his mistakes but it was just another stupid Coyle decision.
All that said there is no point going back to Jussi now , so Bogdan gets the nod for me in the championship but a relegation fight is not a place to let your keeper learn his trade !
