Re: Farewell Jussi
Can't have been happy on the bench. We probably offered him a huge paycut for the 2-year extension. Fresh challenge for Jussi and another big load lifted off our wagebill for next season.

Tbh, even though he's on a slight decline, he's still probably one of the best penalty stoppers in the league. I hope he can teach Bogdan a few of those tricks on the way out.

Re: Farewell Jussi
He'd actually been at the club for approaching 10 months prior to that - think we had 6 goalkeepers on the books or summat like that during 97/98 when Branagan was first choice. I saw Jussi's debut for the reserves against Port Vale at Hilton Park and he had an absolute nightmare, letting two through his legs in the first 10 minutes. To give an appreciation of how long ago it was, Simon Coleman scored Bolton's goal that night and the national press were present because Todd had dropped Beardsley to play in the reserves on the same night that Newcastle played Barcelona away in the Champions League!clapton is god wrote:Fantastic player for us. Can't speak too highly of him. Saw him on what I'm pretty sure was his debut for us in Jimmy Phillips testimonial -v- Celtic and immediately knew we had a find on our hands.
Sad to see both him and Ricardo to go.
Thanks for all the memories.

Re: Farewell Jussi
Definitely deserves legend status, he's been such a great servant to the club.
As other have said previously, I think it's the right time for him to leave. We were going to have to part company sooner or later and now's the best opportunity to do so. I look forward to seeing what his next challenge is.
Cheers Jussi!

Megson? Early in the season? Didn't we lose 1-0? Anyway yes, he was capable of magnificence no matter how crap the outfielders before him.officer_dibble wrote:hull away which he won on his own

Re: Farewell Jussi
a1 - spot on. us getting battered plus speed pen will always mean city away to me.
DSB - hulls first season, we won 1-0 and i had the pleasure of sitting right behind jussi who made a bucket load of saves. Matt Taylor scored, about the only thing Jussi didnt do...

I thought we robbed them 1-0, after being completely stuffed off the park...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Megson? Early in the season? Didn't we lose 1-0? Anyway yes, he was capable of magnificence no matter how crap the outfielders before him.officer_dibble wrote:hull away which he won on his own

Re: Farewell Jussi
Although it is without a doubt the right time for him to go, it'll still be a bit like seeing an ex with her new bloke to see him playing for someone else!
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Farewell Jussi
Another great double save for me, against Charlton in the 2000 FA QF.
Be strange not to have him around, part of the Reebok furniture. A great goalie and servant - but time for club and player to move on.
Always did flap at corners a bit too much though...

Farewell Jussi. It was always calming to know he was between the sticks. We quite often had loads to worry about but never in goal.
