Where are they now - Gareth Farrelly

Where fellow sufferers gather to share the pain, longing and unrequited transfer requests that make being a Wanderer what it is...

Where are they now - Gareth Farrelly

Post by TKIZ! » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:27 am

Training to become a solicitor. Gives his views on Wanderers chances in the Championship, I never forget his goal against Preston on both New Years day and in the Play-off final.

Ironically also scored the goal that sent us down in '97 for Everton

What's your beef?

Good to see an ex-pro taking up a vocation tbh, instead of sitting on a sofa half pissed and giving the world such fascinating insights as: "It's a real striker's goal that."
"Young people, nowadays, imagine money is everything."

"Yes, and when they grow older they know it."

I wouldn't have described him (as the BN does) as a "ball-winner", but there you go

Am I correct in thinking that we lost very few games that Uriah Rennie was in charge? :D

The goal against Preston at Cardiff had me running round a pub in Northampton to the bemused looks of the locals

Yep - me and Our Kid used to joke about it, but yeah, he gave us everything. Lovely fella. :D

Yep, afterall, he gave us a goal based on a television replay on the big screen in the 3-3 draw against Derby at the 'bok!

He was horrific for us, one of the worst players who've played regularly for us that we've had.

That being said, I liked him. Good luck to him.

I'd forgotten about this

Pretty sure we're the only set of fans that liked Uriah Rennie as a referee.

Uriah was a great ref for us. Always pleased when I saw his name on the officials list. He was a martial arts expert, either Karate or Kung Fu or somesuch. I think he liked the 'physicallity' of our approach in those days and also didn't penalise KD as much as other refs

Was Rennie not the ref when we got loads of decisions at Wolves, and Davies scored a last minute winner?

God knows. I just remember him doing the 3-3 Derby game (Pollock scored a late equaliser from 3-1 down I think) and the play off Final. I always had him down as being demoted down the divisions a season or two after the play offs..

I'm probably wrong, I just can't remember him doing any of our games after that.

Aye, but whatever advantages awarded us by Mr Rennie, they were always comfortably cancelled out by that cock from Teesside!
