The League Cup
Look, before anyone starts, I know it's got a different name again this year but I'm really sick of trying to keep up.
Anyway;
Firstly - when's the draw for the 2nd Round? (can't seem to find it).
Secondly (and more importantly) - we have a 48 game season this season. As such, can we afford to take this competition seriously?
Personally, I think I'd like to see us do what Allardyce used to do with cup competitions - let the stiffs and the fringe players start the early rounds whilst having the big guns on the bench. Then strengthen as needed if we/as we progress.
Thoughts?

Re: The League Cup
I'm not sure we will have that "first team" obvious choices going on. Will be a mixture from the squad, given the way the fixtures pan out with more midweek games.Bruce Rioja wrote:Look, before anyone starts, I know it's got a different name again this year but I'm really sick of trying to keep up.

League cup just adds to that. Believe draw is lunchtime today??
For me all focus should go on getting back to the premiership. However, cup games are a good chance to try different plans, systems and players out.

I'd let Pratley captain the league cup team.

Crawley away......
Re: The League Cup
Crawley Away. Urgh. They're known for their upsets aswell. We'll have to up our game to stay in the cup as I don't think Crawley will be an easy fixture. Semi-weakened side probably but still can't rest on our laurels.

all over that.

I think Coyle, who loves a cup run, will do just that.Bruce Rioja wrote:Personally, I think I'd like to see us do what Allardyce used to do with cup competitions - let the stiffs and the fringe players start the early rounds whilst having the big guns on the bench. Crawley won't be easy though.

Re: The League Cup
Ahh, that could make it a little more tricky. The 28th's deffo the less tricky of the two.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:28th or 29th August.Bruce Rioja wrote:That might be better for me. What date's it on?Athers wrote:On a weeknight, hmpf

Re: The League Cup
We play the previous Friday (home to Forest) and have a trip to Hull the following Saturday, so if we have any say in it I'd imagine we'd prefer Tuesday, but I suppose it's principally Crawley's choice.Bruce Rioja wrote:Ahh, that could make it a little more tricky. According to the fixture poster, it's down for the 29th August.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:We play the previous Friday (home to Forest) and have a trip to Hull the following Saturday, so if we have any say in it I'd imagine we'd prefer Tuesday, but I suppose it's principally Crawley's choice.Bruce Rioja wrote:Ahh, that could make it a little more tricky. Re: The League Cup
By 'fixture poster' do you mean the person who alerted this forum thread or a pre-printed wall-hanger with a fixture list and a blank space, created yonks ago by somebody who doesn't work for Crawley?Annoyed Grunt wrote:According to the fixture poster, it's down for the 29th August.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:We play the previous Friday (home to Forest) and have a trip to Hull the following Saturday, so if we have any say in it I'd imagine we'd prefer Tuesday, but I suppose it's principally Crawley's choice.
