Bolton vs Crystal Palace

Post by marshall_42 » Tue Sep 11, 2012 4:54 pm

Getting in very eraly with this one, but I have just booked my first (and possibly only) match of the season. Looking forward to getting over for one of my infrequent pilgrimages, but not necessarily looking forward to the football.

There are 3 games to play before this one and I am having a wager with the Mrs about whether OC will be gone by the time we get to the Reebok on the 29th.

At the minute I would reckon there is a 4/5 chance he will still be there.

I fully expect OC to still be in charge next week regardless of the next result...

Are you talking about uncle Eddie?

See this link and check out the sponsors.

http://millionsteps.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BWFC are sponsoring this fundraiser in the IOM....and I believe that the fundraiser, a personal trainer, footballer and football coach is the son of uncle Eddie. We could swap hom for OC.

After beating Sheff WEd today

---------Bogdan
Rickets, Mills, Knight, Warnock
-M Davies, Spearing, Andrews
---------Eagles
------NGog + AN Other

Take your pick of K Davies, Afobe or Sordell

Reasonable looking team that. Give Sordell a chance I'd say.

Yeah, I'd go with the same team and Sordell too. We need a goalscorer up front to work alongside Davies or N'Gog.

'If it ain't broke don't fix it' isn't always the best approach. If there's weaknesses identified that a better time might exploit, you don't want to wait until you lose to change the team. I think it might be harsh to drop Alonso, and would probably prefer Warnock replacing Andrews.

It's a bad lineup if not for the fact we won despite the efforts of Mears and to a lesser extent Alonso.

Alonso won't score in every game, but he will play pretty crudely in most. He also needs to learn to cross.

I think I remember seeing Mears successfully overlap maybe once.

------------Bogdan-------------
Ricketts-Mills-Knight-Warnock
------Spearing-Andrews-------
------------MDavies------------
-----------Lee-----Eagles------
--------------NGog-------------

Our strikers don't score, so why plonk two of them on there? Tell Spearing and Andrews not to go past half way, and let the front four play it on the deck and score heaps of goals. :)

Would Petrov look better with Warnock behind him?

I don't think Andrews has provided anything of note really. Still have faith in Mavies and the goal he scored yesterday shows just what he is capable of. Spearing doing his job well too.

The wrong names in a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-4-2 are the problem, not the formations themselves.

We need two defensively minded midfielders generally (Holden/Moo, NRC/Moo types), IMO. At the minute that's Spearing and Andrews (although I'm not at all sure about Andrews at the moment). Putting some sort of 5 in MF with just Spearing in it as someone who can tackle, leaves him too much to do.

Don't see the team changing much from this weekend, assuming we've picked up no injuries. Albeit the Ricketts/Warnock move for Mears/Alonso might be interesting. Ricketts hasn't convinced me yet this season, although not playing in his best position.

Andrews is fine

Problem he has his that he's not flashy - does the dirty stuff, and he'll get 6-10 goals

A decent piece of business

Evidence that even Coyle can sign a useful player if he's allowed the old scattergun approach

Thought he was very poor against Watford. I see that he's not flashy. :-) And as said, I think we need two players doing the dirty stuff (one of who is Andrews at the moment). I'm just not convinced about him at the minute. Jury's still out for me, but given that we don't really have other options, then we have what we have. I can't help thinking - and did at the time - that the £3.5m spent on Sordell, should have been spent on a DM. Even if Spearing and Andrews pans out (and it might do at this level), one of them gets injured and we're very light on options.

I seem to remember him putting it on a plate for Ngog from a cross

But apart from score i thought Ngog played really well

we are talking "theoretically" here aren't we ?

In which case, swap N'Gog for Sordell & that would be my selection too.

It won't happen, of course.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
