Anyone but him!
Just catching up with the Coyle sacked thread and seeing a lot of names bandied about. Whoever we get some are going to be happy & others less so.
When I heard the name Alex McLeish I felt the same panic I felt when Megson was 1st mentioned. Only worse appointment I could think of would be Jimmy Phillips being hired on a permanent basis.
Who then, of the realistic candidates would be the worst man for the job in your opinion?

There's plenty, but I agree, McLeish would be the worst.

McCarthy.Nice enough fella but no chance of him establishing a small club in the Premier League. His CV tells us he isn't able to do that.
Of the options who will realistically come i'd take a bit of a gamble on Keith Hill, and if we can't offer enough for him to leave Barnsley i'd go for McCleish.

Re: Anyone but him!
Roy Keane without a doubt. He will drain the little confidence left in the squad. Don't think he was liked at Sunderland and Ipswich and didn't seem to get the results either.
Closely followed by McLeish. He'll make Megson's football look like Ajax of the 70s.

well didn't know i had to give reasons butIanmooreslovechild wrote:because?lovethesmellofnapalm wrote:Mick McCarthy
1. he's mediocre, yes he's got teams out of "this" division but so has Coyle with a team with infinitely less resources
2. doesn't strike me as the organisational genius many on this board at least say we need- the Roy Keane hulabaloo at ROI was perhaps overdone but still..
3. Bluff Yorkshireman just doesn't do it for me-
4. it strikes of short term thinking.
5. his record doesnt strike me with confidence that he can get the best out of players over the season. Fletcher? Doyle? Jarvis? Kightly?- all would walk into our team.

Re: Anyone but him!
Call it a hunch, but from Gartside's track record I can't see it being McCarthy.
McCarthy could be classified as one of those Championship 'reliables' like Warnock- they have an ability to get teams promoted but stutter when the reach the big league.
We had a chance to take one of these when Megson went and Gartside opted for someone '(relatively) young and unproven' instead. A gamble that paid off in the short-term.
We probably have two options-
1) Someone steady like McCarthy to get us into the Prem. Then when they inevitably stagnate we can ditch them and get an upgrade.
2) Someone risky like Solskjaer who could screw up bigstyle or could improve us in the long run where Coyle couldn't.
