Back to back clean sheets in those games as well, both away from home.

Yeah, sell him! Get Reo-Coker back instead. he's a free agent again now. And I'm sure he's made it clear he's prem quality so we'll be lucky to have him.

On the principle of "stop being so bloody happy", I'll draw you're attention to who we have next round. Your favourite Prem team, and out bogyest of all bogy's.

Thank me later. :D

There is a cheery spin on this, whilst our league record against them is lamentable, our FA Cup record is pretty good (lost one in ten).

Last time we lost to them in the FA Cup was 26 Feb 1908. :-)

Since then we won in 1935, 1953 in the semi-final and 1994 (a 3-2 win at Goodison in a replay, after a 1-1 at Burnden)

On that basis, we'll sh*t 'em.

Had a peruse of the match reports from various media sources. Game described amazingly differently between the regular dailies and the local Makem versions, Northern Echo etc:

A controversial penalty---A clear cut penalty
Sunderland dominated the first half---apart from the first fifteen minutes, Sunderland offered nothing....etc etc.

Amazing how views differ in honest journalism.

Just got home from the game, absolutely terrific performance. Some of our passing play was a joy to watch which certainly backs up the theory that you get a lot less time on the ball in the Championship.

Alonso immense AGAIN and Lonergan deserves a chance in the league now, safe as houses at the back.

Despite our lack of numbers it was a bloody brilliant atmosphere in our end as well.

That win was for Nat.

Quite a shock when I got up this morning to find that -

we scored 2 goals and kept a clean sheet,

Sordell starts and scores 2,

Holden is back,

We won away to a Premiership team, (well they are until May), and

No complaints from fans about our players or manager!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now if only we could do something similar in the Championship we could start to revive the season, but that's just wishful thinking right ???

Perhaps the players are starting to show that they have what it takes afterall, .................
Depression is just a state of mind, supporting Bolton is also a state of mind hence supporting Bolton must be depressing QED

Great stuff. Congrats to all involved.. It sounded a very accomplished performance and against an almost full strength Sunderland side, it was pretty comfortable by all accounts.

Pleased with the clean sheet. Welcome bonus and especially pleased that Sordell managed to notch a couple more to his growing tally.. 4 starts, 4 goals?

Most pleasing of all though, was that Sunderland were heavily reliant on set pieces and yet, despite them having players with expert delivery, we stood up to it.

I'd carry on with Lonergen at Palace. Not sure Bogdan has done too much wrong, but he just doesn't really inspire confidence for me. I'd keep Sordell in too. And Vela.

It sounds like we played really well kept it tight early on then started to attack in the second half. This is what we try to do most games, right? My genuine question about the game is... what was different in this game than other recent games? 1) More space against Prem opposition, 2) the players we had on the pitch, 3) very bad opposition, or 4) something else... or all of the above :)

The big test now is to back it up against Palace. Im going to make the trip down looking forward to Dougie returning to Selhurst Park. Please play the same back 4 and give Sordell and Lonergan a start. COYWM
