Didn't we once try to sign him?

Bernie Slaven, he backed the wrong horse

Would Martin Pike count, he was on loan?

Don't think we tried to sign him permanently, despite the Paddock's pleas. IIRC he was about £65k, out of our league in those days for a full-back.

Can't remember his name, He was an African centre midfielder who played in the Spanish league, think he was an estimated £7 million target.

This is in the era of Phil Neal, who refused to sell Trevor Morgan to some Oriental side because they'd only offered £6k after mentioning £7k... :?
I think Fulham snapped him up at the asking price.

No, Chief - norrim. He scored against England when we played them. Baldy head. (ah, yes, he may be Macedonian rather than Moldovan)
