The next four games

Post by gizmothevoomer » Sat Mar 02, 2013 6:03 pm

Currently we are in 10th position ( Pending the result of the Forest game this evening ), I always believe clubs should target blocks of games to to achieve success. Our next four games are home to Blackburn and Brighton followed by Ipswich and Charlton given our current form we are capable of winning all of them but think 8 or 9 points would be a good return. giving us 56 Pts.

Leicester have Leeds, Wednesday, Cardiff and Derby and need to take 6 points as a minimum to remain play off favourites to give them 63pts.

Brighton have Bristol, Us, Barnsley and Palace again they would want a minimum of 6 points to give them 61 points.

Boro have Huddersfield, Bristol, Birmingham and Wolves and would want 10points to give them 64 Points.

Leeds have Leicester, Palace, Peterborough and derby game against Huddersfield realistically 6 points is going to be their target to give them 55 Points.

Forest have Ipswich, Wolves, Hull and Brighton which they would hope for 7 points which would give them 58 points assuming they hold on to the lead against Wednesday tonight.

I reckon the gap between 5th and 10th will close in terms of points but we have to over achieve and others under achieve for us to be serious contenders for the last play of slot.

the "targeting blocks of games" seems to be the way things are done, but i just want to beat Blackburn, and if that means lose the 2 games after, ill take it.

Right now we have to look at winning every game, and need to start by winning on Tuesday against Blackburn.

Allardyce always used to look at blocks of games. Just saying.

From where I sit, Posh, Barnsley, Blackburn and Brighton are a foursome in which we'd see whether we'd be nearer promotion or relegation. So far so good.

And I repeat, I don't think we'll make the play-offs; indeed in some ways I'd be slightly worried if we did get there and get up. But I'd like the positivity to flow.

Big hike in TV Revenues this/next? season in the Prem. We'd probably be right to be worried, but much the richer, so think we'd probably live with it. :-)

I can't get my head around the logic of anyone who thinks it might be bad to go up this year. I appreciate that isn't what DSB has said there, but I'll be 'worrying' no matter when (/if) we finally get back! I'd rather asap!

I have a lot of faith in Freedman and judging by the players he's signed so far if we were to go up(we have to dream), then I'd trust him to spend a relatively small budget wisely. Win our next two games and we're in the shake up no doubt.

If that happens then we will not go up, Personally I think we could win all four of those. If we do I am in no doubt we will either win the play offs or finish 2nd.

Even if we went up and didn't win a game it would probably be beneficial. Isn't it something like an extra 30m in TV revenue? If we spent none of that it would take a huge chunk out of the debt.

I think Leicester will blow it, as I mentioned in another thread. It's now 5 points in their last 6 games, compared to our 14 points in the same number of matches. That is terrible form and it looks like their heads are down. They were lucky to get a point tonight too, by all accounts. Boro are another side in poor form, having got just 7 points from their last 10 games.

It'll be down to us, Brighton and Forest, I think. However, teams will continue to slip up, so it's still very unpredictable.

Well that's 3 points taken care of. Have a feeling we could beat Brighton on Saturday too, we have a real head of steam going and we're also winning games by grinding out results, so we've got a bit of steel to us now that we never had under Coyle.

It's taken a little while but Dougie's hard work is finally starting to show!

Brighton would have been looking at their last game, expecting a win. They drew though, so if they lose to us, that'll only be 1 point from a potential 6. It's so easy for teams to go on poor runs when it really matters. I think our Premier League experience should help us avoid those odd results, which is why I'm fairly optimistic about getting into the play-off spots. We should be able to handle the pressure better than a side like Brighton, who are in a new situation entirely.

As I said one game and one win at a time, but we shouldn't get carried away as Leicester, Brighton and Leeds all have a game in hand on us so its going to be difficult to get that 6th spot. But another win on Saturday wouldn't go amiss, difficult as it would be to get. Just happy for the last seven games at the moment!! :D

Let's be realistic. This isn't the Premier League and our experience up there didn't do us a lot of good in the end. What we need to do is remember we're just another team in this league and battle our way through it. Effort, fight and a bit of confidence is doing us good, but we're only just turning the corner. Time enough to think Pemier League if/when we get there and that's a fair way off just yet. Let's not be underestimating sides like Brighton or anybody else.
