Tommy Banks
Not sure if this has been mentioned (apologies if so) but there's a book out about Tommy Banks – written by/with a fellow former Wanderer, Ian Seddon. And it has quite the best URL I've seen in ages:

Re: Tommy Banks
Saw Tommy play quite a few times. He was in the "assassin" class of full back, along with Ball, and later "Chopper" Hartle. Introducing wingers to the gravel surround was typical Tommy. Could well have been named Tommy, the Tank Engine". A Paul Robinson type, but of a different world of football. I'll have to read that one...

Love the picture of the sliding tackle on Charlton. Bobby is about to unleash a big shot and has no idea what is about to hit him.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Not sure if this has been mentioned (apologies if so) but there's a book out about Tommy Banks – written by/with a fellow former Wanderer, Ian Seddon. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Actual Wallpaper or on your computer? Because you can get laser imaged wall paper with any image of your choice... Pal of mine (United fan) has his spare bedroom decorated on one wall with the United team celebrating winning the Sampions Lig..
It looks really good, in fairness

Got the book at Christmas, an excellent read about an excellent player. We'll not see Tommy's like playing football again. Perhaps some of our modern day "superstars" should be made to read this book (if they can read) as Tommy was a leading player in getting the maximum wage lifted, which paved the way for their massive wages of today.
Can't see many of todays footballers having to take up hod carrying on a building site when they finish!!

Yes they are.
On a related subject, but still off thread, does anyone know of or have any pictures of the old Great Lever Conservative club that used to be on Manchester Rd opposite the old St Michael's school?. Somewhere between the bottom of Green Lane and the Greyhound pub.
TD might remember it?

Re: Tommy Banks
Vaguely remember it Willy, along with Bulloughs (is Taskers still going?), although have no pics. Lots of Labour and Conny clubs have dissapeared now. My local Conny Club was on Halliwell Road up past The Raglan, and a real decent night at one time.Wandering Willy wrote:Yes they are.

Cracking on to some knobhead's bint is a leading cause of hospital admission.Bruce Rioja wrote:I remember going to an 18th there and getting smacked in the mouth for cracking on to some knobhead's bint.TANGODANCER wrote: My local Conny Club was on Halliwell Road up past The Raglan, and a real decent night at one time.
