Looking at the photo, the Pie Eaters might be an appropriate place for him!

It was just a wee push.

Not sure how I feel about this, I grew up with cut outs and pictures of John on my bedroom wall celebrating various feats for the Wanderers.

Wigan.....sigh

Can't stand the club and wish them all the worst for the coming season, But I wish John success!!

Oh this is strange....

And see this is the issue that people had with Coyle. Not that he signed players he'd worked with before. But that he seemed to be "jobs for the boys". Some of that included players. Dressing room jester? Lets pay Robbie Blake 15 grand a week for that role, for 2 years....

There is absolutely nowt wrong with working with people you have before. If you think they are the best people around for the job.

But compare our newly appointed scouting and analysis setup which was announced here: http://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/article/new- ... 46751.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

To that of picking out John McGinlay as Chief Scout.

One screams a professional structure has been put in place with an attempt at least to bring in the right people. The other screams "ooo we've got a job, which mate fancies it"!

this disastrous policy - yet you predict Coyle taking Wigan into the top 6...

I'd have thought that he already will have.

Wasn't one of the reasons that he didn't get the Blackpool job because he wasn't allowed to bring his friends and family mbers along with him?

Did Bob Martin take his lot to Goodison?

Nowt wrong with signing players you already know: Clough did it (McGovern), Ferguson did it (Leighton), Allardyce did it (West Ham now being Old Boltonians), Rioch did it (McGinlay himself among a fair few others). Nowt wrong with employing backroom staff you know - I've a feeling Rioch, who bagged Todd from Bradford, also tugged along Ian McNeill (IIRC) from previous employment.

But that's the thing: McNeill was a proper chief scout who'd pounded the grounds for years. McGinlay, an utter legend who'll never go without booze or bed in Bolton, is quite simply not a chief scout. I don't always agree with BWFCi's obsessive counterCoyle postings (or LK's inevitable knee-jerk Megson-was-worse ripostes) but on this I'm in full endorsement: Coyle hires acolytes and yes-men who are underequipped for the job.

It's often said that it's not what you know, it's who you know. True to an extent, but here's another thought. Networking is getting places by impressing people you know. Nepotism is using people you know to get a station above your ideas.

One of the things that came out of the fans forum was Dougie was quick and keen to pass questions to Mark Leather or Brian Prestidge when he felt they were more "expert" to answer them.

He said that underneath him (DF) there are 4 major departments (2 of which headed up by BP and ML) with a 5th that Dougie may put in place at a later date.

I think the point is that he is trying to get excellence and expertise all around the club. Not saying everything is going to work, but it's surely a better strategy for the long term!

See, as much as I despise the risible nice person that is Dave Whelan, he didn't get to where he has by being a complete 4uckwit.

I'm truly stunned that he's sanctioning this appointment.

So what you're saying is that ML and BP are better qualified than anybody else to say: "Yes Dougie, in my opinion, Pratley is fvckin' shit and here's why....."

If OC wants to sign players from Scotland and his old club he's got the right man!

Blimey, that's a strange one.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I think you're all just knee jerking against Coyle. Fact remains he did better with the squad that Megson left him whilst he was allowed to keep it. When he was forced to reduce the budget, by amongst many other things paying off Danny Shittu,he did much worse. Its really easy to throw around terms like knee jerk without ever addressing the evidence. Coyle's team had won promotion with him at burnleyl. what sane reason wouldn't he have to bring them with him? Sticking with failure once the rot sets in is not an exclusive Owen Coyle trait. Football is awash with cronyism. Some get away withit, some don't.
