It's a Marathon not a Sprint

Post by Nottingham_Blancs » Wed Aug 28, 2013 9:23 pm

I'm not a regular poster, but I do browse the content.

As the late Bill Shankly is alleged to have said...

"It's a Marathon not a Sprint"

Lots of mass panic and hysteria on here after the opening few matches.

Seems to be lots of rants on here about certain players, even questions about Dougie's competence and suitability for the job. But come on we are still in August !

I know as BWFC fans we like a goad moan and are hard to please. I think it's part of our BWFC culture ...having a good old moan.

So I'll have a moan about BWFC

1 The new PA system is rubbish
2 No half time entertainment ever thank you.
3 Why did they take the roof off the dugouts
4 The giant scoreboard is showing signs of old age
5 Why is there not a clock on the scoreboard all the time?
6 There was a spiv on the outside concourse selling BWFC keyrings
7 Why don't we have a nice anthem to play before ko
8 Why do they call the ticket office Bolton Central ...sounds like a railway station
9 The TV's in the concourse are awful

There, I've had a moan. Too early to moan about anything on the pitch yet.

I started my post quoting Shankly, I'll finish quoting Cloughie

"Players lose you games, not tactics. There's so much crap talked about tactics by people who barely know how to win at dominoes"

And yet Clough used to take the credit for tactical genius when they won? That's having your cake and eating it. A great manager but he didn't half waffle on at times.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Even it a marathon it is better to get off to a good start!

However, I do agree with most of what you are saying especially the all round atmosphere at the game to think they actually had meeting to try and improve the HT entertainment etc. AWFUL!!

To be extremely pedantic: it is neither a marathon nor a sprint, it's a series of games of football one after the other, is what it is. :P

But even at the starting gun we've stumbled and the pack have pushed past us

Ohh err i started this thread, i don't think we are wearing running shoes.... Maybe we got spikes on.

Judging by how the defence dived and threw themselves to the floor for the shambolic 1st goal yesterday maybe we have entered gymnastics.

There's nothing to worry about.

I've just had a quick swatch through the history books at the corresponding weekend since we lost 4-0 away to Scarborough 1988.

Since then we've played a further ten away games and only won 3. (West Ham - which doesn't count, Tranmere and QPR). Drew none and lost the rest.

So we hardly win on this weekend so I don't know what you're worrying about.
I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.
