Re: 100 Great Wanderers Memories.
Battle of burndens gotta be in...
3 minutes, johnny sheridan stirs ir, super johns on his arse and all of a sudden 'mad' gerry and 'usually cool as a cucumber' chrissy fairclough are smacking the wolves players about left and right. Even gavin ward sprints about 60 yards from the nets to land one. Bryan Small looked nervously on.
Pre match super john came out and gave a wave to his mates from wolverhampton. Positive this didn't help to stir it!

Beating Derby when that Judas Chandler came back.
Re: 100 Great Wanderers Memories.
A couple of recent headers.
Tamir Cohen's late header against the Arse. Followed by heartfelt celebrations.
Lee's late header against Brum in the semi-final. Followed by delirious celebrations.
Davo's late header against Spurs. You guessed it: celebrations. 3-2!

Forgot Birmingham in the cup. Cracking game, and that goal by Phillips is one of he best (Its really close to the best) I've ever seen live. Superb technique and execution.
Can I also add one of Bruce Rioch's early games, the 3-1 v Blackpool, and a brilliant solo performance from Snott Green? Proper Burnden night that one.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Was going to mention that. Was a very special moment!Jakerbeef wrote:A couple of recent headers.

Also, how about Holden's goal to put us ahead straight after Blackburn had equalised a couple of years back. Possibly has already been mentioned?

Jim McDonagh, playing for Rotherham, puts the ball down for a goal kick ... turns for his run up while the referee (I think it was Roger Kirkpatrick aka 'Mr. Pickwick) waves that the ball hadn't gone out and was still in play.
Jim turns to take the kick to see Gary Jones walking the ball into the Lever End net.
Now THAT was funny.

Re: 100 Great Wanderers Memories.
Highlight of last season was Eagles' late goal against Blackburn. Not up there with the classic moments but if we're rummaging about outside Mr Coffey's box it was the most excited I've been about a goal for a while.
Plus after yesterday and the weekend I've decided to commit Dougie's cardinal sin and reminisce as much as possible. I bet he cries out Jedinak's name in the night anyway. Hypocrite.

Re: 100 Great Wanderers Memories.
One of mine is the FA cup game against Oldham at Burnden when we got knocked out after the White Hot games.
It might sound a curious choice bearing in mind it's a game we lost but I'll try to explain it here.
After years of rubbish and low crowds at home we were finally starting to recover some pride and become a decent football club again. The crowds were rising, we were beating top flight sides in the cup and doing well enough in the league under Rioch too. So why have I chosen a game we lost. Well I always stood in the Burnden Paddock as a young teenager shouting and singing and being lifted several feet from where I was stood when we scored - it was great times but for this game I had taken up the option to sit in the Manny Rd with my then girlfriends granddad as it was a free ticket. Well I witnessed what seemed like a 20 minute rendition of "We are the one and only wanderers" by the entire Paddock, all the way from the Embankment down to the Lever end, what seemed like the whole crowd jumping and singing!! I was incredibly jealous at the time that I was missing out on it by sittin with the Werthers brigade but looking back now I'm kind of glad that I saw Burnden rocking like that on a famous FA cup day from a different perspective than I would normally have had. Just a shame Mark Patterson had a brain fart!
Should be a high number because obviously it's not as good as Walkers goal at Highbury, or Farrelly at the Millenium etc etc.

Re: 100 Great Wanderers Memories.
Away to Everton, 1980. League Cup Semi-Final first leg. We'd dominated the whole match, were 1-0 down, about 80m in and a free kick was awarded to us in 'the D' (I think their keeper had carried the ball out of the area).
Bolton fans were massed behind the goal in question.
Whatmore thumped the bugger right into the corner. Uproar, total uproar.
Days of optimism and amazement.

Fulham (with Bobby Moore) walking off after Bolton equalized in Double Added Fergie Time.
Unfortunately they came back.

Not to make you fell old Bobo but it was 1977. I remember my dad still buzzing the morning after and promising to take us all to Wembley. I could have returned that 'favour' and taken him to the Stoke gamebobo the clown wrote:Away to Everton, 1980. League Cup Semi-Final first leg.
