Rams to the slaughter?

Re: Rams to the slaughter?
I think what he's saying is it took Anelka about 12 games to score, didn't it?
and the premis is about giving a striker time to settle rather than comparing the class of player.

See also Thierry Henry at Arsenal.Athers wrote:I think what he's saying is it took Anelka about 12 games to score, didn't it?

But I understand the amusement at the comparison.

Re: Rams to the slaughter?
Was Anelka's quality ever in doubt though? What do they say about form being something and class being something else?
Anyway, let's not get bogged down in the past. It's the future we're on about here.
And the future's Brighton, the future's Beckford.

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

Have I missed something? I'm *pretty* sure 'compare' is not the same as 'say is as good as'.
Both look lazy, both base their game on movement, both don't do much other than score. Drastically different standards, but Beckford reminds me of a skint man's Anelka.
And there were people questioning Anelka until Arsenal.

It doesn't suggest that at all. It suggests that we've bought poorly.Ianmooreslovechild wrote:Bloody realists!Tombwfc wrote:Beckford is now nearly 30 and is still yet to score ten league goals in a season outside of League One.
Don't waste your life waiting for him to come good.
I assume we couldnt afford or attract another anelka and actually Beckford was as good as we could afford at the time.If you look at what we paid for Ngog and Sordell it kind of suggests that genuine quality strikers who can be relied on for goals are quite expensive. The only option s are to borrow a young one from a premiership clubs reserves(short term) or hope to get lucky with someone who has potential but is playing at a lower level. I have a feeling 24 clubs in the championship may be looking for the same thing .
Gambling 1m on Beckford was totally justifiable in the circumstances and we can only hope he gets a couple of goals soon and finds a bit of belief.
James Vaughan was on loan at Huddersfield alongside Beckford last season. He played more games, he scored more goals and he works infinitely harder. When the end of the season came around Mark Robins sent Beckford back on his merry way but publicly stated that he'd like to sign Vaughan permanently. They got him for £1m and he's scored 7 goals already this season.
Danny Ings at Burnley and Johnny Russell at Derby also both cost £1m or less and have got goals this season. In fact, looking down this list - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... efault.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - I don't think any of those bar Jordan Rhodes cost as much as Sordell.

Beckford couldn't hit a banjo with a cow's arse.

Freedman bought Beckford.

He was trying to find an ideal striker to match Eaves, N'gog and Sordell...Wandering Willy wrote:Beckford couldn't hit a banjo with a cow's arse.

Beckford looks the best of a bad bunch to me so far.

Permission to feel smug ?CAPSLOCK wrote:Just to highlight the Beckford chatter
Beckford is clearly all about confidence, most strikers are.Well done Dougie for backing him beyond the point most, including me, were giving up on him.Beckford also happens to fit the preferred game plan of DF. Ngog would too if he could finish.

Re: Rams to the slaughter?
Yep, hands up here too. I was very dismissive of Beckford but he's scored a few goals now which I consider to be 'strikers' goals. A one-on-one and the fast reactions when the ball drops to him (via the legs of the goalie).
Taking a swipe at the ball from the edge of the box is one thing but being in the right place at the right time is a skill that can't be taught.
Good for him and good for us. Saturday was, in my opinion one of those make or break games. Watford are a good side and from the sounds of it we kept them down to a couple of long range efforts.
I'll be more than happy to eat my words off a paper plate if this carries on.
If only eh?
