Beckford hasn't changed. He makes the same runs he did when he first joined. The supply line is better, that's all.

People piss and moan about him not getting on the end of a long straight ball, but he bends his runs to get on the shoulder and in between defenders, so if the ball is shit, he's right to fvck it off

Yeah but the question remains, is he any relation to Darren? He of Oldham Athletic/Mark Patterson fame in 94?

I'm not at all convinced by Beckford. I think they'll be spells in the season where he won't score for five/six games and people will ask what he actually does. Although I think he has a worth in away games where the opposition play a high line with lots of space to expose behind. He had the freedom of the Watford half, if Moritz had been on the pitch for more than 20 minutes he would have supplied a decent enough through ball for Beckford to chase. Wouldn't have put my figurative house on him scoring like.

He fits the way DF seems to prefer playing and I agree with your comments about him suiting an approach away from home but it appears DF plans to use a similar approach at home too. Maybe that will change now that we are getting some results though.
Course he's not anelka but perhaps those kind of players arent in our price range anymore. It's refreshing to have a striker who scores goals though isnt it? I think that's a good thing.
The goal at watford was the short a sharp striker in form scores and not the sort I remember from our strikers in recent seasons.

TBF the Boro fans had given him grief all game (along with Lonergan). Leeds this and Leeds that even tough Leeds is a long way from Boro. maybe Boro should concentrate their hatred on Darlo and Hartlepool rather than Leeds.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Not particularly a fan.. poor mans Jermaine Defoe but with less effort / ability
He's fine.. for what he is - fox in the box - Couldn't lace John McGinlays boots...
The lack of ability of any of them to regularly hit the target let alone score is the real head scratcher for me....
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham

Reminds me of when we sent Eagles up to take a penalty at Millwall after he was getting abuse all game.

Same result.

In each case, did we send, or did the taker volunteer?

Would you worry about McGinlay stepping forward at Molineux?

If someone wants to take it, and knows where the net is (as Beckford and Eagles certainly do), I don't see why the manager should come sprinting onto the field to wrestle the ball away from him. How good would that be for morale? See also the Guardiola/Robben thing earlier in the season.

Best not get involved in penalty-taking choices, bar perhaps nominating your preferred taker(s) in training. Not many people want to take spot-kicks, it might not be the same every time, and it generally sorts itself out among the players. If Beckford, with 5 goals in 6 games, fancied it, why would you stop him? And what would you say to him?

I would guess they were both down as the designated on the day, but certainly in Eagles' case he's not famed for his mental strength or to revel in such a situation. Beckford strikes me as a cocky sod so perhaps it is a case of overdoing the, "I'll score to shut these lot up, damn right I will, come on then," but I don't know what was going on in his head, nor was I there to witness the scale of this abuse!

Players miss 'em 1 in 5/6 though, so it happens.. Just a thought though
