the glorious "I was wrong" thread

Post by thebish » Thu Aug 28, 2014 11:29 am

A cathartic place of healing and off-your-chestness..

a place to openly and proudly declare that you were totally wrong about some kind of BWFC footballing matter - however long ago it was - sometimes these things fester and gnaw at our souls.

(multiple contributions allowed!) :D

I'll kick off gently..

I was wrong many, many, many, many times - in fact - every single one of the multiple times that I boldly declared "This is Vas Te's season".

(that feels better!) :D

I didn't think signing Hierro for what was, in practical terms by the time he signed and got fit, a little more than half a season, made any sense at all. I now believe that he was a footballing God and possibly the best player I've ever been privileged to see in a Bolton shirt ... even in that short period, even at that age.

I also watched Campo play at Centre-Half and thought "wtf ?"
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

"Mark my words he'll play for England, that lad". Said to my mate Big Matty the Bluenose whilst pointing out Nicky Hunt to him. :?

Managers are my main faux pas. I really thought Megson would get us on track, then Sammy Lee, then Owen Coyle, then Dougie. How wrong can you get?

In my match report on another home thrashing by the Filth of Stretford I made Chris Basham my man of the match and predicted a fine future for him.

I thought Mario Jardel would be our saviour...if only we could get him fit. (Mind you, part of me still thinks that).

After seeing his debut in a friendly, not only did I think SKD was shoite, but I thought fellow debutant Michael Bridges was good!

i never thought kevin davies would #burfday himself out of favour so quickly.

you knew allardyce would "salt the earth" , as he had previous, but not kevin .

and muamba

"well, he's dead"

but i'm kinda glad that worked out , but he's talked smack about bwfc since leaving, so he's kinda on my #burfday list with kevin, but he's not gone full 'birthday princess' about it like davies did. He's only mentioned it once or twice.

Christ! Where to start?

It took me far too long to realise Sammy Lee was taking us down, that Owen Coyle wouldn't keep us up and that Dougie is the chancer we all now know him to be.

I recall a 3-0 win over Gillingham in the mid 80s and remarking to my mate - "This team is going places". We did - Division 4, after that being our last win for about 3 months.

Greg Wylde is the worst example I can think of, as someone I named as a potential legend.

Coyle obviously, but mainly Daveed fecking Ngog. Made a right arse of myself defending that useless sack of shite. I try to make up for it by slagging him at every available opportunity.

Also Jussi, who I confidently labelled a useless flapper.

With head in hands I have to admit that I told my dad that Trotter dominated Millwalls midfield against us a couple of seasons ago and that I thought he'd be just what we needed in midfield to let Spearing get forward more
Just how wrong can a person be
Also predicted both Jardel and Riga would set our team alight with goals galore.
With this, I have now realised that I know nothing about football and any further opinions I have should be ignored.

After seeing Franck Passi play five minutes, I turned to my sister in law and said "Quality signing that bloke". His first 5 minutes were his best. By a looong way.
