Telling Allardyce there was no funds to push for a CL spot, then giving Megson 35 million

Has to go down as a clanger in my book

Yes, I've often thought "what if" about that one.

There are a couple of things though. Allardyce request was 12 months prior, we might not have had access to £30+m then. We weren't in much danger of getting relegated (ie losing money). It would still have been a tough ask to remain in the top 4, so significant expenditure might not have got us any extra cash. I recall Gartside at the time talking about £100m investment.

12 months on, we got some cash, but there was a distinct possibility we were going to lose the season afters TV money by getting relegated. There was a significant new TV deal for the 2007/08 season which is where some of the money will have come from.

I can't see past the Normid building - and neither could some opposition supporters apparently :D

I'm quite happy at the Reebok but I wonder if we could have built a decent stadium on the Burnden site

Megson also sold Anelka, Nolan and a few minnows for a combined total of over 25 million

I'm sure fatty would've gone along with that

Yeah, but you lot keep forgetting that fabulous temporary stand (The Des McBain Stand, as we liked to call it).

Yep. And let's not leave Wyn Davies out of that.

I didthink I should have said " ... & lost Wyn Davies the year later". We could have won the fricking league.

Considering you have probably seen more of him than most, I really, really hope you are wrong. We need a stabilising period to stop the downward spiral into League 1 since Big Sam left, then slow and prolonged improvement. Hopefully Neil Lennon can do that (keeping fingers and toes crossed).

Burnden Park needed some serious upgrading, but letting them build The Normid Wall was an epic fail. Would probably have been better to bulldoze the Embankment completely (where my Grandad was in the crush but survived) and build a shop fully behind with a small stand and corporate boxes in front. Away fans should have been put in the Lever End, where they could have had a world-class view of blue pointed railings and ballboy's backsides.

But the winner......changing those wonderful old *Booths* floodlights which looked better than the Eiffel Tower to bulbs-on-toothbrushes. Owners, directors, managers, players come and go, but floodlights should be there forever. Tuh, never forgiven them....
