The Joy of (Twenty-)Sixth? Rovers / Boxing Day
Resisting the urge to describe this as a Christmas cracker (or for that matter a Lancashire hotpot), I note that this is the first time the two sides have met on Boxing Day. The final play-off spot is still the aim but few of teams above us seem ready to blink yet. Hopefully Blackburn will be the first of many.
Craig Davies could be back and Eidur should have shaken off his mild bout of manflu.
Onwards and upwards!

Re: The Joy of (Twenty-)Sixth? Rovers / Boxing Day
since the turn of the century (including the year 2000), we have only won 5 of our boxing day games... (lost 7, drawn 2)
we have beaten:
Sheff. Wed 2-0
Newcastle 4-3
Newcastle 2-1
West Brom 2-0
Barnsley 1-0 (last year)

Re: The Joy of (Twenty-)Sixth? Rovers / Boxing Day
Arguably, this is the most difficult of our next six games, but winnable, nevertheless. As such, I'd like to think that we could maintain the 2ppg average NL has achieved so far until the end of Jan. There's got to be (at least) a dozen points from:
Dingles (h); 'uddersfield (a); dirty Leeds (h); Sheff Wed (a); Rotherham (a); and Wolves (h).
It starts to get a bit trickier in Feb ...

If I read DSB right (on the Millwall thread) one more clean sheet will be a club record.
Hmmm...enter Jordan Rhodes...
Let's hope Chungy, Eidur and Cravies have their shooting boots nicely laced-up.

It's also Wrens Day. Shame we weren't playing The Owls - the thread title would have been better.thebish wrote:re. thread title... also, as it happens - St Stephen's day - made famous in the carol "Good King Wenceslas" (on the feast of stephen)

ahhh - that's where they originated! The tradition consists of "hunting" a fake wren, and putting it on top of a decorated pole. Then the crowds of mummers or strawboys celebrate the wren (also pronounced as the wran) by dressing up in masks, straw suits and colourful motley clothing and, accompanied by traditional céilí music bands, parade through the towns and villages. These crowds are sometimes called wrenboys.

Really hope C Davies is back for this.
Never get into an argument with an idiot. i'll bring you down to my level and beat you with experience
Re: The Joy of (Twenty-)Sixth? Rovers / Boxing Day
If he isn't, I'm not so sure that playing Eidur alone upfront is the answer.
