Re: Chungy open letter to fans
After five-and-a-half years the time has come for me to leave Bolton Wanderers. Whilst I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead, I’m very sad to be leaving this great club behind.
I will take nothing but good memories away from my time at Bolton. I’ve enjoyed every moment and I will remember Bolton and the fans for the rest of my life.
I’ve worked under four managers and each one of them were very kind to me. I felt like they all believed in my ability and for that I’m very grateful.
I have also met some wonderful teammates and will take away some excellent memories, both on and off the training ground. We always worked very hard in training and because of the people training alongside me I was able to really push myself.
I’d also like to thank the great backroom staff at Bolton. They have always been very kind to me and my family. When I first moved over here it was a very big moment for me and my family and they helped us a lot.
I must also thank the chairman. Every player is important to him and he made me feel very special. He has been very kind to me and has helped me a lot.
I’ll never forget 15 August 2009, when I came on to the pitch for my debut – the fans and noise they made was incredible. They didn’t know much about me because I had come from a foreign country, but I felt like they were looking forward to seeing me play. I had a good feeling right away.
I always gave my best for Bolton in every game, because when I was on the pitch and you feel the fans’ passion it really does drive you on.
After that the fans have always supported and believed in me. So, I have to say a big thank you to the fans of Bolton Wanderers. I am now also a Bolton Wanderers fan and will be for the rest of my life. I will always be looking out for every result.
I also looking forward to seeing Bolton back in the Premier League in the near future. I think we have a very good manager in Neil Lennon and the set-up is good. I just want to say to the fans to keep supporting and cheering the team on in every game. I’ll be doing the same wherever I am.
Thank you for the memories Bolton.

That's very nice of him.
Seems like he is a fan as well.

Re: Chungy open letter to fans
Yes, it was nice. Perhaps he'll return in 10 years' time like Eidur. I'm glad to be able to say that I saw both his debt, at home to Sunderland, and his final game, away to Huddersfield. A player of real quality who, unfortunately, missed a whole year through injury and then took a while to re-find his form.
Re: Chungy open letter to fans
I still thought he would have given bwfc at least another couple of years, especially now Lennon's in charge but hey ho, good luck chungy and thanks

Massive loss to the team, but he's gone and we have to carry on. Nice letter and rings as very genuine. Good luck Chungy, you'll be missed.

I hate to say it, but money probably talked a bit. We wouldn't have been able to have offered him much.twilight wrote:I still thought he would have given bwfc at least another couple of years, especially now Lennon's in charge but hey ho, good luck chungy and thanks
Also, it was interesting to read what Falcao said in the newspaper last week regarding his transfer moves in the past. He basically said few - if any - of them were in his hands and he ended up in places he didn't want to go to. I'm not saying this is the case with Chung, but his agent probably had a large influence on matters.

Prety sure that's the case. Kevin Nolan didn't know he was leaving and going to Newcastle till two days before it happened, apparently.Jugs wrote:I hate to say it, but money probably talked a bit. Did Chungy have much choice in that though?twilight wrote:I still thought he would have given bwfc at least another couple of years, especially now Lennon's in charge but hey ho, good luck chungy and thanks
Good luck and thanks indeed, Fella.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Chungy open letter to fans
You can imagine the contract talks 'So Chungy, we really want you to stay, you're our best player and at peak age. But we're a bit skint, so here's a contract on half the money you were on and please ignore the interest from the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A' Pleeeeeaaaase!'Bruce Rioja wrote:Did Chungy have much choice in that though?twilight wrote:I still thought he would have given bwfc at least another couple of years, especially now Lennon's in charge but hey ho, good luck chungy and thanks

Good luck to him, and I'm glad he finished on a high and I enjoyed watching him again. I'd have been sadder if he'd just slunk off under Dougie after playing shit for 18 months.

Re: Chungy open letter to fans
He 'probably' would have been in a better negotiating position if he had kept at Bolton until his contract ran out. He 'may' have had more choice of club and even commanded a higher salary if he had been a free agent.
Was it Bolton who wanted to sell or Chungy who wanted to go (or both). Either way I think we are lucky to get anything for him at all.
Good luck to him.

Re: Chungy open letter to fans
I reckon a bit of both - Garty commented on Elmander, N'gog etc. when he did that interview with the BN, saying that we'd tried to unload but really couldn't on favourable terms. So I guess if he was saying that he'd probably move on in summer - or we thought that it was likely, we decided to cut our losses...malcd1 wrote:He 'probably' would have been in a better negotiating position if he had kept at Bolton until his contract ran out. Re: Chungy open letter to fans
I'm sure he would of made a lot more money if he had let his contract rundown to the end of the season and pocketed the transfer fee for himself. Sounds genuine in his affection for the club and hard not to wish him luck in the future!

He was on 28 grand a week here apparently,so it would have been a bit difficult trying to keep him here.I also hope he comes back one day!!!

Wish the lad no ill and its a nice touch from a generation of players who dont tend to have that level of respect for clubs and fans.
Buuut...I can't say I want him to do well at palace. I only want the best for our players, no-one elses.

He didn't say why he decided to leave did he? I for one would like to know why so that I can have closure. He had absolutely no desire to stay unlike other players such Mills who are out of contract at the end of the season.
Why Chungy, why ? Tell us and I might be more understanding.
All the best to you. You are a wonderful player.

Re: Chungy open letter to fans
We couldn't have afforded him next year unless he was willing to spend another year of championship football on 30% of his current wage. This way we get him off the wage bill and get a little something for him too. Sad to see him go but this was the best case scenario imo, particularly with him currently being injuredirie Cee Bee wrote:He didn't say why he decided to leave did he?
