Well he's got to break his duck eventually! Admittedly I've only seen the highlights and read match reports, but his overall game seems fine. Holds it up well, moves the ball well, brings others into the game - at times it looks like he has magnets in his head and feet the way it sticks to him - he just seems to be lacking confidence on the scoring front. Hopefully once he nets one, he'll start doing it a little more often.

Same with Clough, don't think he quite knows how to handle being a marked man now since bursting onto the scene last season.
Clough is trying too hard. But it is a lot of pressure for a young lad who has played 10 senior games or so, to be expected to be the top scorer. He is our best finisher but others need to bang in a few to take the pressure off Clough and just let him play his natural game.

It works if you have a player who is good enough on the weaker side that they can happily go outside, so Ronaldo, Messi, Robben sorts, or even tbf at a lower level someone like Mahrez at Leicester. The problem is that most aren't though, so you have the dual problem of a)being predictable, and b) making the pitch narrow because your winger comes inside all the time. Every time Bale gets the ball out on the right he comes inside. Makes him v easy to defend against.
It'd be alright if the full back got down the line and took a man out, but at our level, they rarely can
It worked well enough for Silva as he scared them running in off the line at them. Won a couple of free kicks.

If Silva is always cutting inside from the left he'll be easier to deal with than if he can go both ways. Perhaps we can go back to the Allardyce days of "wingers" swapping sides throughout the game constantly.
I actually think that was the plan, until that full back with the tight shorts got booked... Think we could've punished him, but he (Lichaj?) actually grew into it and did well

Premier league days seem a long while ago now lads?...we know.

Can see Bowyer putting out his usual defensive formation out at home, even against a league 1 bound side like yourselves.

Fancy Rhodes if fit to make the difference Friday night...1-0...in front of the lowest derby gate for quite a while.

P.S

See you all in Div 1! :hang:

B.E.N. says Derik's back fit & in the squad.

It also says Wheater is close. (I'm not sure what to tbh). So just Pratley we're waiting on.

Despite our financial situation the club (first team players and coaching staff) are all staying at the Marriott Hotel in Preston this evening - 28 of them in total sat down for dinner. It's cost the clubs account just short of 4k for one nights stay, evening meal and breakfast.
