At least he's had experience at another troubled club (Portsmouth).

Club statement on the appointment of Trevor Birch at Bolton Wanderers

The board of Bolton Wanderers Football Club has today, Tuesday 17 November, announced the appointment of Trevor Birch to act on behalf of the club and owner with immediate effect. The role will see Trevor providing assistance to the board and owner which will include managing negotiations with the various parties who have expressed an interest in purchasing the club. Brett Warburton, Vice Chairman, said: “Trevor is a football man who has great experience in dealing with clubs in difficult financial situations. We welcome his support in assisting us through this difficult period. “Our current owner Eddie Davies is fully supportive of the appointment and will work closely with Trevor. “Eddie has provided an incredible level of financial support which has brought the club great success and meant huge enjoyment to all fans. We all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude. “Unfortunately, since relegation, we haven’t been able to turn things around on the pitch and re-gain promotion despite running a very high player wage bill. As the Premier League parachute funding disappears we need to find further funding to replace it. Eddie has indicated that he can’t provide any further funding and we have therefore been working hard to attract the appropriate investment to take this club forward.”

Brett also commented on the position of chairman Phil Gartside: “I’m sad to report that Phil is seriously ill at the moment and Trevor will now lead the negotiations on behalf of the board and the owner.”

Interesting ... AND confirmation that Gary is "seriously ill".

Though where this comes from I don't know. Some people eh ...

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

At least there are negotiations taking place. Though how far developed is the question.

I'd suggest this appointment means nothing is very advanced as if that were the case this wouldn't be needed.

Does feel very bleak. Hopefully something will turn up.

Despite whatever conflicting views we might have about Bolton Wanderers Phil Gartside has been with the club a long time. All best wishes for a speedy recovery and a return to full health.

Don't know just repeating what NW Tonight said. They also said that Trevor Birch had succeeded him, so who knows?

Yep, I hope Phil Gartside makes a speedy recovery. He's been a significant part of the clubs history and was the leader off the pitch during our most successful period in the modern game.

Best of luck to him. And whatever anyone says he is a Wanderers fan and one of us.
