Re: Sports Shield - New Owners (Probably)
Or in Robbie Blake's case, the Premier League. Managers have always signed their favourites - Phil Neal took Julian Darby to Coventry, Rioch re-signed McGinlay/Branagan/Davison/Phillips, Allardyce loves Nolan, Clough signed John McGovern four times.boltonboris wrote:Saves us from tying their mates down to 3 year contracts and managers going with the tried and trusted lieutenants who so often let us down and are there purely as eyes and ears..bristol_Wanderer3 wrote:I am still struggling to read this as anything but prospective managers told what our new owners transfer plans are? I want to be wrong, so I hope what PT says above is nearer the mark. Surely any manager worth his salt will have his own ideas about players he wishes to bring in?(...)“I think we have already identified around 40 per cent of the players we want to bring in for the start of next season once the embargo is lifted,” he told The Bolton News.
“When we spoke to the candidates about who we’d picked out, every one of them were in agreement and said they would have been on their list too.
“They were nodding along and saying “good choice".

Prevalent in lower league football
You have a point, but the owners can also stop managers handing out sweetheart contracts by, well, not handing them out. Doesn't matter whether or not you do the shopping – if it's your chequebook, you have the power.

As part owner, is Director of football a sackable position if he doesn't shine at it?

Holdsworth won't divulge why he's left the role for 'legal reasons'. Sounds like this is more to do with the fall out between himself and Ken than anything else.

Reading between the lines it looks like a right mess! Otherwise why wouldn't the club and holdsworth comment?

I mean you know all those reports about the owners not getting on...well they weren't made up.officer_dibble wrote:Reading between the lines it looks like a right mess! Otherwise why wouldn't the club and holdsworth comment?
I suspect they tried to find a way to accommodate both in the day to day running of the club but it failed for whatever reason. Possibly Parkinson didn't want or need a director of football. Possibly Deano felt transfers were being done by KA anyway.
Given the direction of travel it might be in everyone's best interests for Anderson to buy out Deano. I mean I'd prefer Deano to KA really but seems Ken has the sway in whatever deals have gone down and seems he is the one making things happen.

He only spoke with Anderson before joining anyway so presumably he knew the situation.plymouth wanderer wrote:What must Parky be thinking! "Come on lad, come to Bolton, we'll feck up your good reputation! It's a bloody circus!

weren't they? not sure how us not quite knowing what has happened here proves that one way or the other...BWFC_Insane wrote:I mean you know all those reports about the owners not getting on...well they weren't made up.officer_dibble wrote:Reading between the lines it looks like a right mess! Well this isn't confirming anything to me as I already knew.....but....thebish wrote:weren't they? not sure how us not quite knowing what has happened here proves that one way or the other...BWFC_Insane wrote:I mean you know all those reports about the owners not getting on...well they weren't made up.officer_dibble wrote:Reading between the lines it looks like a right mess! ...look at the language used "won't comment further" "won't say more due to legal reasons". This is a director of the business. Lets be clear there is no way this isn't reflective of some ongoing issue between the owners.
At the end of the day so long as progress carries on being made does it matter? Probably not.

They have, now.officer_dibble wrote:Reading between the lines it looks like a right mess! Otherwise why wouldn't the club and holdsworth comment?
Deano's press release wrote:As of yesterday, I ceased to be employed by BWFC as director of football but wish to confirm that I remain as a shareholder and director of Burnden Leisure Limited with Ken Anderson. I remain fully committed to the club and am excited by the prospect of a successful new season.
BWFC's press release wrote:Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Dean Holdsworth has resigned from his role as Director of Football. The club will be making no further comment on the matter.
