Iles tweeted that Thorpe is running already so can't be far off.
Vela could drop back alongside Derik and Henry come in to his place I suppose but he'd need to graft a lot harder than we've seen so far.
Trotter was fine against Port Vale but under no pressure at all. I have no confidence that he'll stand up to a tough away game.

This just tweeted from Parky's presser: "We're still waiting to hear if the loan players can play. Josh Vela is suspended while Derik is doubtful."

So with long-termers Davies, Pratley, Spearing and Thorpe out, that'd be just the six central midfielders unavailable. Jings. Parky might have to strap his boots back on... no bad midfielder in his day, that lad...

Marc Iles, BN: With Derik a "significant doubt", "Academy graduate Alex Perry has now been put on red alert to make only his second senior start". Still no permission for Henry/Ameobi either. "We’re working on getting permission for loan players to play but it looks as though there will be opportunities," says Parky, hastily erecting a lemonade stall. (More fringer-encouraging quotes here.)

He has a point. Even if Derik, Ameobi and Henry aren't available, we should have enough players keen to make a play for a regular spot. True, we might have to draft in Perry alongside Trotter, but other than that we have enough grown-ups to fill the shirt.

Wouldn't astonish me to see us start with Jamie Proctor in a wide position - he played there for Parky at Bradford - and it sounds like Chris Taylor could come back in, which might prompt a switch for Clough into a more central position. Or they could rotate those players, with Proctor/Clough/Taylor taking it in turns to do Vela's version of the "hard-running No.10" thing Pratley tried to do. Then there's Keshi Anderson, who could do with a start, and Max Clayton, who might get some minutes against Grimsby, Cheltenham or both.

We also have spare players further back, too, which could have an effect further forward. Lewis Buxton has been on the bench for the last two games, and giving him a runout could allow us to push Lawrie WIlson forward into the right-wing role both the last two managers have tried him in. On the other side, Dean Moxey is available but hasn't played in a month since the Oxford game, when he paired up on the left with Andrew Taylor.

Yes, there may be changes, and some of these players may not fill your heart with joy, but it'll be intriguing to see how they fit into a winning team. Long season ahead, and we play a hard-running game, so we need to assess the players who are currently on the fringe. If it turns out they're bobbins, we can start shopping for January.

I have to say I'm struggling to recall Mr Perry's last senior start... :-)

feck the numbers, we need to keep the same shape we've had.

Would play Madine through the middle with Clough and Proctor outside him

Perry, Trotter and Taylor in front

I was trying to let him down lightly! :-)

He's only 18 now, so I think it can't have been too long ago...

The BN match report doesn't mention him much, except that he seems to have played in defence. Jack Earing played in midfield but he's 10 months younger than the Scouser (17y9m vs 18y7m).

I'm thinking:

Alnwick
Wilson Wheater Beevers A.Taylor
Perry Trotter C.Taylor
Ameobi/Henry/Anderson Madine Clough

Anderson to play if both Henry and Ameobi are denied permission to play. With Clayton and Earing appearing on the bench...

in front of a 10812 crowd :)

That is a pretty strong line-up for a first round FA Cup match.

I would have preferred Anderson to have started. Clayton on the bench too.

Apparently we dominated the first half but we've been shit since I got the stream on for the 2nd.
Getting outplayed here. Still managed a one on one though which proctor hit straight at the keeper. Howard just saved a very good chance for them.
