Where Are They Now? Joey O'Brien

Post by Dave Sutton's barnet » Wed Feb 08, 2017 9:27 am

Possibly back at our place having a trial. From the BN:
(Wanderers) could try and tempt former utility man Joey O’Brien into a trial if the Irishman recovers quickly from a calf injury.

O’Brien, who made 70 appearances in seven seasons with the Whites during the Premier League era, has been without a club since his release at West Ham last summer. The Dubliner spent five years at Upton Park and helped the Hammers back into the Premier League via the play-offs under Sam Allardyce in 2012.

The lack of an immediate replacement means Parkinson will have to make do and mend for this weekend’s visit of Walsall and the Valentine’s Day clash with Rochdale three days later.
He's 31 next week – two years younger than Buxton, and also younger than Pratley, Moxey and Morais, FWIW.

Provided he is anything like fit and ready I would take him back in a heartbeat. Always rated him.

Fitness the question, isn't it? If he's good he'd be a cracking replacement for Wilson.

Fin fact: served him in JD Sports once. Most Irish man ever. His accent sounds made up. Almost Seamus Coleman levels of "he must be taking the piss".

Got his house robbed once whilst at an away game. Got home, phoned the police, got ready to go out and as soon as the police arrived, he left them there with his mate and went on the piss in Bolton

Yeah would be a decent signing if fit. Big if though with that lad.

I have him in the pay for play category, like Mavies. Shame for both, really.

When we released him I thought he'd spend the summer struggling to prove his fitness to clubs and then jack it in - credit to him for carving out a good stint at West Ham. Goes to show how good he might have been had he not had the injuries.

That being said, he hasn't played since last April and is injured already. With regret, I'm out. Stick Derik there or find a kid.
