Absolutely no chance of Holding. Looks to be their third choice CB at the moment (and they're playing 3). Was excellent in the cup semi and played well against United. Really impressed with his mentality, think he's the real deal. And good on him.

Speaking of Barnsley, perhaps the best signing(s) we could make this summer would be their youth team scout / defensive coach. In recent times they have sold John Stones to Everton (£3m + £7m sell on fee), Mason Holgate to Everton (£2m), Alfie Mawson to Swansea (£5m), and James Bree to Aston Villa (£3m). Mawson was signed as an unknown from Brentford, but the rest came through the academy. £20m just on defenders!!

He has another twelve months left and I too would offer him at the very least a further twelve-month extension. He's playing well, is in the prime of his career and, last but not least, he might also be the only player that we have who would command a transfer fee.

True, true. We've already lifted Linton Brown from there to be our new commercial head. Maybe he can have a word?bristol_Wanderer3 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 12:22 pmSpeaking of Barnsley, perhaps the best signing(s) we could make this summer would be their youth team scout / defensive coach. Interesting to note, on a not dissimilar topic, in the BN that Parky is looking to expand the scouting system with two specific remits: scouting abroad and scouting U23s.

I reckon 90% plus of the actual value of our squad (not book) is Beevers and Josh. Mostly Josh.Nicko58 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 12:29 pmthrowawayboltonian wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 10:31 amHow long is Beevers' contract by the way? Harsh on Vela. But for the record, I agree: I wouldn't be giving out three-year contracts, but I'd be extending those with one year left who we should definitely want to keep. Those we're not sure about, well they can prove their point (see also the 17 this season) – and if they seek alternatives, that's the risk we take.Nicko58 wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 12:29 pmHe has another twelve months left and I too would offer him at the very least a further twelve-month extension. 2018 expirees (as per your ever-ready underused friend the Contract Expiry thread):
Mark Howard
Ben Alnwick
Mark Beevers
Derik Osede
Darren Pratley
Chris Taylor
Jamie Proctor
Conor Wilkinson
...so yeah, I'd be offering an extension to Beevers.
(Amos and Vela, each to 2019, are the only other players we have under contract as of July.)

Another thing on Beevers: he's just had a baby, seems very happy, and might well be thinking about settling down. No bad thing.
Re: The Promotion Commotion Transfer Thread 2017
Oh aye, I forgot about Vela. Him too.

Interesting the top three loss makers, four if Reading come through the play offs, have all made it to the promised land in either 2015/16 or 2016/17. I guess the gambling isn't going to stop soon...Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu May 11, 2017 3:54 pmParticularly in that division.
