Bigger than Radcliffe Borough or Atherton Colls, I suppose. Do our clubs have a history of key fixtures? I've forgotten.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2017 4:09 pmHow is that 'tasty'?Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2017 3:58 pmStoke City at home, 3pm July 29 (source: BWFC)

Hate the Stokie bastards. No reason, I'm just bitter.

They're a bunch of violent thugs too, so that'll be nice.

You're confusing them with the cretins from Burslem. This lot are polite and genteel.

midweek night matches away at Aldershot or Woking for me please!
Re: Pre-season fixtures 2017
Stoke. Nice to see a Premiership side I suppose. Just a shame it's Stoke. I'm sure there will be plenty of reminders of the 5-0.
Wish we had a foreign ream as our showcase match.

Geography adds to the intrigue and as it stands there is very little of intrigue about Stoke.Gary the Enfield wrote: ↑Wed May 10, 2017 10:57 pmWhich 5-0? We did them after they did us right? Geography is nothing.
At least if we were playing some foreign team it may start a conversation about signing a hidden gem.

Re: Pre-season fixtures 2017
Second one announced - Stockport County (A) July 25th.
Does Kevin Francis still play for them?

It has always struck me as odd that over many many years now we always play the vast majority of our pre season fixtures away from home, Any reason anyone ?

Cost. Nae bugger comes to them, so you're shelling out considerable overheads for little return.knobpolisher wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2017 2:25 pmIt has always struck me as odd that over many many years now we always play the vast majority of our pre season fixtures away from home, Any reason anyone ?

Re: Pre-season fixtures 2017
Per this morning's BN, we'll play another game in Scotland on Sat 15 July, against "higher league opposition" than Arbroath (recently promoted from the fourth tier as champions), as Parky aims to emulate last summer's Scandiwegian pre-season with a week or so in Caledonia.
I had a hunch we might play Aberdeen, but they're playing in Europe on Thu 13 and Thu 20; I guess we could play them on the Sunday but they may not want the extra game. Furthermore, the Scottish League Cup kicks off on Sat 15 July, involving every Scottish club bar the four in Europe (Aberdeen, Celtic, Rangers, St Johnstone).
Like Aberdeen, Celtic will be playing in Europe (in their case the Champions league, possibly accompanied by Orange pipes) on the Wed/Thu either side of that weekend. Rangers have already started playing friendlies because (like St Johnstone) they enter the Europa League a round earlier and their qualifiers are on 29 June and 6 July, but if they get through they’ll also be playing either side of that weekend. There’s a chance those teams will want a game against reasonable Sassenach opposition, but I’d err on the side of doubt there.
Which leaves the 40 teams who are playing in the Scottish League Cup. Although it starts on that Saturday, it’s split into eight groups of five teams, meaning eight teams are gameless and would probably fancy a warm-up. One of them is Arbroath, the other seven are:
Hearts (tier 1, finished 5th out of 12 last season)
Dundee (t1, 10th/12)
Dumbarton (t2, 8th/10)
Airdieonians (t3, 3rd/10)
Albion Rovers (t3, 8th/10)
Forfar Athletic (tier 4, 2nd/10 teams, promoted)
Edinburgh City (t4, 7th/10)
Hearts might seem favourites considering we played them two years ago, but they’ve got a home friendly against Newacstle on Fri 14th. Which means that Dundee, seemingly fixture-free, might be our oppo. (Dumbarton have a friendly with Clydebank, which means we don’t get to play at their weirdly wonderful ground overshadowed by a huge Ayers Rock-like plug of volcanic basalt). After that you're into teams who aren't in a higher tier than Arbroath; for the record, Airdrieonians seem to be available, and I can't find any evidence of existing friendlies that weekend for Albion Rovers, Forfar or Edinburgh City.
Iles also reports that "In total, seven first-team friendlies are expected" – the second Scottish game would make six, suggesting there'd be another the following midweek, which is the only midweek the first-teamers are free. There'll be a representative XI at Atherton Colls on the Wednesday, meaning the firsts should play on the Tuesday. Leaving the line-up something like this (reserves fixtures in paler colour):
Wed 5 Jul: West Didsbury & Chorlton (A), Brookburn Road, 7pm
Sat 8 Jul: Chorley (A), Victory Park, 3pm
Tue 11 Jul: Arbroath (A), Gayfield, 7.30pm
Sat 15 Jul: game in Scotland, tba
?Tue 18 Jul: possible game, not in Scotland
Wed 19 Jul: Atherton Collieries (A), Alder House, 7.45pm
Sat 22 Jul: Fleetwood Town (A), Highbury Stadium, 3pm
Tue 25 Jul: Stockport County (A), Edgeley Park, 7.45pm
Fri 28 Jul: FC United (A), Broadhurst Park, 7.45pm
Sat 29 Jul: Stoke City (H), Macron Stadium, 3pm
