I do take issue with Florent Laville being an expensive mistake. He was a wonderful player for us until he got that injury.

Aye, that was bad research on the reporters part. That man was brilliant, hailed by the fans and very unlucky.

Bolton finished 13th in the Premier League in 2008/09, two years after Allardyce left. Incredibly, they finished in the same league position or worse for the next eight seasons in succession. That run will only end at the conclusion of 2017/18.
??
We were second last season and Freedman got us 7th as well?

Anyway apart from that and Laville (which is understandable - he signed a deal then got injured IIRC) a good piece.

Yes, but consider the leagues as one vast ladder. 7th in the Championship is lower than 18th in the Premier League. 2nd in League One is lower than 24th in the Championship.

We're a division higher so can't possibly finish lower than.last season.

I had the start point as 13th in the league (if the leagues are one big ladder). We cant finish higher thab 13th in the premier league! Reading it again of course we will finish higher than last season...which i think is what the geezer who wrote it is getting at.

He means every season since that Megson's second season where we finished 13th in the top flight we've gone on to finish lower successively each year. Until now where whatever happens we will finish higher than we did last season.

But that run, was pretty appalling. The Coyle effect.

What a team that is. I loved how multi-national it was.

Aye - love it. By my quick reckoning I reckon we've got:

Finland
Tunisia
Denmark
Spain
England
Senegal
France
Greece
Nigeria
Japan
Jamaica

That must be some sort of record; Nicky Hunt the only Englishman in a Bolton Wanderers team? :D

Remember a fuss over when I think we didn't have any Englishmen. Sunderland away?

Much less of one when Arsenal did it.

Just imagine how tough the club chef had it in those days.

Just noticed this on Youtube. I hadn't seen this before. Quite illuminating, though I am sure there is another side that we probably won't get to hear.

To be honest, Brizzle, that's always been my understanding of it and as far as I'm aware, Garty never countered that version of events.
