Bolton Under 23's the Champs.

Where fellow sufferers gather to share the pain, longing and unrequited transfer requests that make being a Wanderer what it is...

The u23s lost their 5th in 7 this evening. 2-4 v Burnley. They were leading 2-0 at ht and it was 2-2 with 10 mins to go.

Tonight they were 3-1 up v Barnsley with five minutes to go. Ended 3-3.
But at least we may have set a new mark for the finest-named Wanderers scorer ever: Darren Raekwon McIntosh-Buffonge.

I’m not clever enough to post tweets - it says Luca Navarro from our u23s played and scored for hull u23s yesterday.

What’s the crack here then - are they free to sign for other clubs at u23 level?

We should be playing them I reckon - anybody not signed up for next season should not play for us again, kids should make up the balance.

Unfortunately because of the managerial situation I can’t see it happening.

You are – you just haven't learnt it yet baby, as The Smiths might have put it. Just click the "tweet" button and paste the URL in between.

While I understand the idea and, more importantly, the feeling behind it, that's not many first-teamers at all. You've got:

• both goalkeepers
* Pawel (who you would imagine will be off anyway in summer - he thought we were going up!)
• Lowe (injured)
• Murphy (underwhelming, to be kind)
• Oz (underused)
• Sameobi (will he stay? But who'd have him?)
• Magennis (back at his level)

So essentially it'd be

------------Magennis-----------
Kid------Oztumer-----Ameobi
---------Kid---Murphy---------
Kid---Kid---Kid---Pawel/Kid
------Alnwick/Matthews-----

I think playing a team like that against a Boro/Derby/Villa side chasing the Prem, or in the derby at Blackburn, might be somewhat counter-productive as they got their arses handed on a plate. Remember our U23s are currently fourth in what is essentially the Second Division (North). The players most likely to make it are out on loan. I'd be fascinated to see what say Politic could do, but at the minute he's made nine appearances in the fifth tier.

Defence looks light, agreed. Weavers haven’t been awful this season either. Players we don’t need to see disgracing the white shirt again:
Taylor
O Neill (and I’m a fan - but he ain’t doing a job next season)
Hobbs
Wilson
Williams and Connolly (why develop someone else’s youngsters)
Buckley
Noone
Donaldshit

I’d like to know what’s happened to Vela...I think he’s leaving, imagine it’s the same as Little in that he’s signed up somewhere - but he should be given the opportunity to say goodbye.

Plenty of room for a youth left back and midfielders plus Connor hall to play now in my opinion.

Lost our last league game of the season, 3-2 at Cardiff, with something of a fightback from 3-0 down.

https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2019/april/ ... rers-u23s/

We finished sixth out of 10 in the PDL Category 2 (North) table:

Results aren't everything in youth development. Interesting how level that table is apart from the top and bottom positions. Also interesting that Luca Navarro, who was our eight-goal top-scorer (given the half-season absence of Connor Hall to senior football), seems to have chosen to go playing for wooden-spooners Hull.

More details at the excellent YouthHawk.

He's not part of the U23s yet (still a scholar) but I'm curiously glad to see we have a youth-teamer called Ted Moulden who's not on Twitter.
(He's the son of famously prolific striker Paul. Good luck to him and all of 'em.)

The right priorities for next season. Fingers crossed...
Bolton plan to sit down with Luca Connell, his agent and family in an attempt to pin the teenager down to a new contract.

Connell, who turns 18 on Saturday, has progressed through the Wanderers academy to make 11 appearances at first-team level, but is yet to sign professional forms at the club and is available to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Trotters boss Phil Parkinson admits to being impressed with how the midfielder has adapted to life in senior football and believes securing his future will be high on the priority list of incoming owner Laurence Bassini.

"We'd love to keep Luca," Parkinson said. "He's had a taste of first-team football now and he's adapted really well.

"He's refreshing to work with and he just loves playing.

"When the new ownership has officially come in and been able to assess things, I'm sure there will be talks with Luca, his agent and his parents."
