He signed an extended, improved contract in League One and they were then relegated. So he was on a decent League One wage.
I read an interview with him that said he's played in teams that have stayed up on the final day 3 times (already).
Don't know if that's encouraging or not?
If he joins us, he could be heading for number 4. If we're lucky.
Good age, shown form and 6'6". If the coaches like the look of him, I'll be pleased to have him in. Not sure what it means for Turner, though. For all the talk of "future England player" he doesn't look near the first team.
He's only 19 tough isn't he? But his progress has stalled. He was a fixture in the England youth teams and now they're all on tour without him being given a thought - He needs to kick on in the next 24 months, but how do you do that as a manager with a limited shelf life? How does a manager under constant pressure to gain short term results think that he'll blood a young goalkeeper for the benefit of a club he'll most likely get sacked from

They're not top class defenders, but I think part of the issue is the ease with which we've allowed crosses and diagonal balls to be hit into our box for years now. We don't hold the ball in attack and can't retain possession, so we end up with the ball coming into the box so many times that even top class centre backs would struggle to pick up the runners every time.
Sure and we were operating last season with 30-40% possession each game, but a lot of it comes down to sensing danger, positioning and communication.. Wheavers don't seem great talkers, and many times they seem slow to react. John Terry has never had any pace but has made a top class career out of clearing the ball at the front post, and communication and leadership.

I guess it is possible Wheavers, after a year of experiencing the Championship might make some improvement. It also seems possible that the standard in the Championship might be lower this year with a lot of the "bigger" sides under financial pressure.

Nothings gonna happen.
And it did. Clitheroe 0-0 Bolton Under 23s
I think this action shot from the official site sums everything up succinctly.

Wyke hell!

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/16 ... rlie-wyke/

KenAn checks dial tone on office phone.
He nods at IIles in the corner, who sighs and jots on his notepad: "...it is understood they remain in a position to bid if the deal is right."

Meanwhile at a cafe in Brescia, LeeAn puts down his cappucino and get's busy composing another denial.
What could've happened; did.

A little tucked away in his Twitter replies, MI said yesterday, in response to whether CYL was likely to be back:
I think @superagent73 said there would be work permit issues in the Championship, so it's a no-go. Shame. Would have been lovely to see him back.

Another mention from Iles, we're apparently close to getting a player in from one of the former Premier League sides. Doesn't give any clues to club or player.

Probably, but he didn't say "newly relegated" he said something like "former Premier League." He likely meant one of the three that just dropped, but could mean any club that was in the Prem previously. :conf:

It's been a vague off season of second guessing. Good one Illes, former trusted journalist with nice hair.
'Former Premier League' - euphemism that tells us they're too good to buy so only getting on loan...

Another mention from LeeAn we're not close to signing a player who once played for a top European club and were never even interested.

BTW new away kit. Don't rate it. Beware red it make players look angry. I'm sure the maroon away strip got Nobby yellow cards...

22-year old striker Oliver Mcburnie but apparently Swansea want a 'six-figure sum' for him which is off course 5-10 times the one Ken thought of... So LeeAn has binned his gelato and flown to Ibiza to categorically deny any interest...

However, Illes will run a story anyway cause then he gets to write a second one denying it, DOUBLE BANGER! BOOM! Anyways at this stage he has a template where he just inserts club and player name - money for jam. BTW I made that all up, being a journo in Bolton is dead easy.

Reportedly Wildschut from Norwich.

Were we to sign Wildschut and Wyke, we'd have a much more "Premier League" look to our attack. Sammy and those two offers height, pace and power from the front three. No guarantees they'd be good, but they'd look the part in the pre-match line-up.

Nixon's just Tweeted on us being just about there with Wildschut: "Wigan unable to match terms." !!!!!!

I think I'm going to faint.

Agree, would definitely be a quality loan.

Nailed it DSB. Norwich right there. Spooky how you did that.

I assume this is a loan as I assume someone you pay $7m for is one a hefty wage (six figures for sure!) and we're going to pay part of it.

For a big strong ball runner, listed as leftwinger and striker, he doesn't score a lot.
8 goals in 72 games at Championship level. Low indeed until you realise he only averages 41 minutes per appearance. Basically he comes on at half time or just after. Which, if he's effective brings up fitness issues...
Even in Eredivisie in he had 90 (only 10 goals) appearances averaging 52 minutes per.
So are we going to pay $10Kpw for half a game?
Which half first or second?
What could've happened; did.
