On the left. Too Large for Little. We can only Hope?

Pretty sure that isn't Akpan. Akpan isn't that stocky.

Ebanks-Landell - possible.

Hope rather than Ethan Ebanks-Landell who's 6ft2in and a bit of a stringbean
Akpan is 6ft only and more stocky.

Ebanks-Landell.

I dare to Hope!
Probably find out tomorrow.
I'd take either.
Prefer Hope though because he'd be a signing and on a free with resale value and I think he would get a lot of game time. Him and Lowe together in the 4-2-4-1 would be awesome.

Not sure on the sense of recreating the central midfield partnership that relegated Blackburn a couple of years back.......

Good point....Unless they relegate Blackburn again!
Both are years older and wiser I'm sure. At their peak now. Not 22 anymore.

Akpan and Lowe don't make me too excited as a pairing. It's a bit too "Dougie Freedman" for me. I'd not mind both in the squad, but I'd want a more creative partner for them in there.

EEL would be a signing I'd like. We could use a powerful athlete at the back. Beevers and Wheater are too slow as a pairing. Both decent players, but not great together.

Playing a 4-2-4-1 would surprise the opposition, not to mention the officials.

DSB we scraped through last season by the skin of our teeth. Any idea is a good idea at this stage. Also people are generally getting stupider ( overall lost 7 IQ points since the 70s)... I can see us getting away with it.

The key is to not have a number 12 out there. Half numbers would be a bit of a giveaway too...
Apparently Akpan and Little look a lot alike so they can both wear number 4...

We're "looking" at Jack Rodwell now, according to Nixon.

He's been shocking since he left Everton. Clearly has ability, but he's nowhere close to any level at the moment. Something must have gone on.

Also, numbers. Read 'em and weep.

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/f ... y-14520392

He's now earning precisely zero after the new owners paid up his contract, but would he accept say £10kpw? Would he be worth the risk?

Rodwell was, a few years ago, where Loftus-Cheek is now. Very similar players. Rodwell's career totally collapsed.

The question is whether that is totally final or whether, at 27(?), he can come at least close to being the international-class player he was supposed to be.

I'm prepared to trust PP's judgement if he thinks he can get a proper player out of him. Right now, he's a younger Pratley with less commitment to the cause and no bite in the tackle.

Rodwell! Really?

Obviously has had the ability, I wonder about the mentality of someone who is prepared to sit at home despite being fit and collect ridiculously huge wages whilst his club is in financial trouble and bottom of the league. Doesn't appear a guy you want to go into a fight with.

There might be other considerations, and at the end of the day Parky's big strength is man management, so maybe he fancies the challenge of restoring him. I saw an interview with Rodwell recently where he said he sees himself as a centre back rather than a defensive midfielder.

Rodwell once had 9 separate injuries in a calendar year. The bloke was on £72,000 a week at Sunderland 40 odd thousand after relegation.

Even if he takes a massive drop we were paying 6-10K per week last year. Signing Rodwell on 6K a week would be ridiculous and a huge waste until he has proven his fitness and effort.

There is nothing to suggest he'd come for 50p and a packet of crisps but that is literally the only sort of level I'd consider. 5/6K per week is a lot to us. And if we sign Rodwell for even that its a massive waste if he behaves as he did at Sunderland.

I'd stay well, well clear. There are some players who you can get who can prove a point, or recapture their form. Rodwell is IMO a complete lost cause.

I'd thought about him earlier in the window as a possible CB option but assumed he played in midfield because we wanted to and was the type to refuse playing elsewhere.

He always looked like a CB to me (and a peak counter argument to any hipster who sees a defender who didn't shit himself and wants to play him in midfield *cough* Ream *cough*.)

Sure the Andersons wouldn't get fecked on the contract, and then it comes down to attitude/spirit etc. Big q marks there (massive) but trust Parky's judgement.

We aren't going to be able to sign orthodox total packages though (at least until this billionaire takes over).

Sign players who a) give a shit, b) aren't massive walking injuries.

Darren Pratley would be a million times better than Rodwell.

Iles: "It's fair to say the link to Jack Rodwell has been kiboshed by Wanderers. One for Ripley's, I think..."
