I’ve just seen the news that he’s been diagnosed with MND. Absolutely devastating for him and his family. I can’t imagine how you would face up to something like that so young.

That's terrible news for him. I don't think he's a good player and secretly I was glad that he's been out of the squad, but I wouldn't wish that or any illness on anyone. My thoughts are with him and his family :(

You don’t think that a solid player who was always regarded well maybe struggled here because of a degenerative disease being in its early stages then?

Feel gutted for him. Not many worse things than this in life.

Absolutely tragic for any human being. Words won't help anything for the poor bloke except to commiserate with him and his family, but the thoughts from here are genuine and positive. I'll pray for him.

I really couldn't care less as to his worth as a footballer; It's utterly immaterial. This is devastating news for anyone, but for a fit and healthy 29 year old guy? Thoughts really are with him and his loved ones, and we can only hope the club does all it can to support and comfort him.

Didn't know he was married to Steph Houghton, captain of England's Ladies football team and herself a really good footballer/defender. I've watched her many times on televised games. What a truly awful thing to have happened. His family must be absolutely devastated. Pray they find a cure and he can get through it regardless of anything. We may think we have problems but they seem trivial against this.

Sickening. Wouldn't wish that for anyone. Now we know why he was struggling to be the player Parky thought he was. We were not nice to him when he played, just like how most of us feel about Grounds at the moment. A wake up call. Goes to show that we should show more love and patience to our players when they wear our shirts.

I pray that he and his family is able to find the strength cope this terrible illness for which there is no cure.

It’s utterly horrendous this. 29! Hopefully he has undergone more medical tests and it’s been diagnosed earlier because of his profession and it works out as well as these things can do. Fingers crossed for you Stephen lad.

Don't know if any of you saw the BBC interview this morning with Stephen, Rob Burrow and Doddie Wier. I'll put the link below, but I'll warn you now, it's bloody heartbreaking. There aren't the words to describe MND and its effects, there really aren't.

Rob Burrow (who can no longer speak) and Doddie Wier seem to each have this utterly incredible indomitable spirit, but Stephen's struggling, and it's awful to see.

And there isn't a thing any of us can do to help, only wish them love, comfort and peace.

Yeah, echo Bruce's warning, it's f*cking heart-wrenching stuff, really shook me it just appearing on Twitter.

I hope he manages to find some peace.
