Re: Peter Thompson
Awful news. He was one of my first heroes when I first started watching the whites. I was too young to understand the game then but knew he was a good un the way my dad talked about him.
I don't know if it's true but I once heard that Bill Shankly was quoted as saying his biggest regret or mistake in football, was letting PT come to us a year too soon.
Rest in peace

Re: Peter Thompson
Sad news indeed. One of my early Bolton heroes; saw him play many times for us. I was also at his testimonial when 20,000 - including many from Liverpool - turned up at Burnden.
PT - I say keep the user name in tribute to the great man.

Never saw him play, but my dad loved him.
Re: Peter Thompson
Very sad news, loved him during his Wanderers days, a true winger who left many a full back floundering before putting in superb crosses. I have always said that it was his signing that kick started our rise from the old Third Division.
Thank you Peter. RIP
Thank you Peter. RIP
I feel reborn !!!! No more confussion
Re: Peter Thompson
Never saw him play, bit before my time. My dad talks about him a lot and he was a true Bolton/Liverpool legend.
Pfffft.

RIP. My first hero. Tremendous player and a lovely bloke.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Peter Thompson
I only saw Nat Lofthouse play at the end of his career (Babysitting Franny Lee).
So for over 30 years Peter Thompson was my greatest Wanderers hero.
Full Stop
Bar None.
It was a Thing of Beauty to see him mesmerise full-backs before delivering the perfect crosses.
Eventually we had 3 players who could almost compare with him (Le God, JJ and for a short spell Hierro). Almost, but not quite.
Actually Peter Thompson stands alone, as the best Wanderers player to watch in the last 50 years.
He was that good.
Even though we only saw him at the end of his career.
If Alf Ramsey had not been fixated on "Wingless Wonders" to win the World Cup, Tomo would have been renown Worldwide, as he deserved to be.
At least he was also appreciated on Merseyside...https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/announ ... r-thompson
As Bill Shankly said “I have no hesitation in placing Peter up among the all time greats, alongside such players as Tom Finney, Stanley Matthews and George Best.”
There are not many you could say that about.
RIP Peter
Thanks for the memories
