Young Connolly who we had on loan last year doesn't appear to have gone anywhere. I wonder if we could get him back? Played at both left back and centre mid last season and scored our last winning goal

Had a good heart that lad. I’d take him again.

Yes please. He'd do well down here.

Would Everton loan us anyone else after last season's wages shenanigans? They may of course have been paying most, if not all of his, but I wouldn't blame them if they told us to do one.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Sat Aug 10, 2019 12:16 amHarry Genshaw wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 8:39 pmYoung Connolly who we had on loan last year doesn't appear to have gone anywhere. They had no problem letting us borrow him after the January debacle. Like you, I suspect that might be because they were happy to cover the costs if necessary. Or even if not.
They could choose to send him elsewhere given our current state, but if they do I think it would be a footballing decision rather than a financial one.

Would think normally after 6 months in the Champo they'd see league 1 as a backwards step, but unless he goes to Scotland it's probably that or kiddie football now.

Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
He was at Ipswich (tier two) for the whole of 2017/18 and at tier-two Wigan (nine games) for the first half of last season. It would be bad for his development to play at our level. He deserves to be up there in the division above us with the likes of Tom Eaves.
But as you say he and Everton have missed that boat, and there will be others in the same position. Had we sorted our takeover we might be at the front of the queue but with our reputation in tatters I can only imagine players and clubs alike may take a lot of persuasion to trust us.
Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
U23 keeper Aspinall has signed for Wigan (their scoring budget must be a bus pass and a season ticket for us).
Kiddie watchers, is he the one who was supposed to be class (and partly saw off Turner) or is that Alexander? I feel like it was Aspinall but hope I'm wrong!
Iles illustrated the story with a picture of Jussi in a Wigan shirt which made me retch.

Aspinall was the latest hope. Oh well.Prufrock wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 5:31 pmU23 keeper Aspinall has signed for Wigan (their scoring budget must be a bus pass and a season ticket for us).

Well he’s got less first team experience than the kid who started on Saturday. More fool him.

I see Jussi's lad started for Crewe on Saturday. Whatever the academy might be doing, it seems they can spot a keeper

TBF, the amount we score at the other end of the pitch, we need the best we can to keep it to Nil at our end.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 11:44 pmI see Jussi's lad started for Crewe on Saturday. Whatever the academy might be doing, it seems they can spot a keeper

Blimey, Jussi is old enough to have a kid that’s a footballer?Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 11:44 pmI see Jussi's lad started for Crewe on Saturday. Whatever the academy might be doing, it seems they can spot a keeper

Will must be 20-21 now and was on our books until a couple of years ago. Sadly, he doesn’t appear to be anywhere near as good as his Dad, but time will tell.

Isn’t Jussi Jr a lot shorter than his dad?

That's my memory of him from the legends game.

Alexander is 3 years younger and has more clean sheets than Turner and Aspinall combined. It'll be reet.Prufrock wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 5:31 pmU23 keeper Aspinall has signed for Wigan (their scoring budget must be a bus pass and a season ticket for us).
