Strikes me that centre-back and centre-mid, the two positions that this lad has played, are the two where we've got the most depth - albeit with some kids. Maybe those kids are themselves set to go out on loan, to clear space and get experience. Or maybe that's 2+2 but I woudn't be surprised to see Zouma, Brockbank, maybe even Edwards sent out elsewhere to learn on someone else's clock.

Depth we may have but if the lad's going to be a League One equivalent of Craig Dawson, I'd take him and ship any of the current crop.
Knowing nothing about him doesn't help but it won't crush my optimism!

I noticed that Hill opted not to bring Brockbank on as a straight swap for Emmanuel on Tuesday night but instead moved Lowe from central midfield and brought Dodoo on. It might just be that he fancied making a tactical change (although Emmanuel was reportedly brought off because of illness) or he didn't want too much inexperience in his defensive line, but I thought it was a bit curious.
Sadly, I think the writing might be on the wall for Zouma. He'll be a free agent in the summer and there's little sign (as far as I can tell anyway) his manager has much faith in him.

And we're going to lose Darcy tomorrow, aren't we? I can see it coming.

Well, quite. Some might wonder why we've hired someone we maybe can't have next season. I'm sure the long game is in mind, but the short game's been pretty shitty of late too.Enoch wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:20 pmDepth we may have but if the lad's going to be a League One equivalent of Craig Dawson, I'd take him and ship any of the current crop.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:08 pmStrikes me that centre-back and centre-mid, the two positions that this lad has played, are the two where we've got the most depth - albeit with some kids.

Emmanuel was ill and unlikely to last the 90. I suppose Hill might have thought that bringing on another defender - and one who, with the best will, isn't as attacking as Emmanuel - might not have been the best way to win the game. But equally, he may not have had faith in Brockbank. After all, last time Harry came on as a full-back it very quickly went very wrong.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 1:27 pmI noticed that Hill opted not to bring Brockbank on as a straight swap for Emmanuel on Tuesday night but instead moved Lowe from central midfield and brought Dodoo on. I think and hope there's a player there but it wouldn't surprise me to see him go out on loan. The fact he has a contract here next season might help him stake a claim in our team, although a good loan spell would do more so.

But Nixon knows nothing! I know cos a bloke on the internet said so!

As he neared 19 years of age he went to third-tier Bury for the 2016/17 season; played 13 times in all comps, arguably most notable moment being a bundle-prompting red card in the derby with Rochdale. Season after, he went to Oldham (also third tier), played 37 times and won their Young Player Of The Season award.
That summer, City released him but Sheffield United gave him a three-year contract (which therefore has 18 months to run). Blades haven't sent him out on loan and he's only made four appearances, all as sub, in his 18 months there so he needs to kick on. Huddersfield and Charlton were sniffing earlier in the window with a £750,000 fee mentioned, so I don't know why he's washed up on our shores. Maybe he won't and I've just wasted five minutes' research

According tert th'office Shaker, he remembers Bryan as looking like an excellent prospect. We'll see, I guess.

'A fee of £750,000 mentioned'. For a guy with 4 substitute appearances in 18 months. This moneyball approach could be a piece of piss.
Anyway, good luck to the lad

I think it’s a decent signing. I know you value my transfer opinionBruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 2:13 pmAccording tert th'office Shaker, he remembers Bryan as looking like an excellent prospect. We'll see, I guess.
Re: Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.
Bryan certainly sounds like he should be an upgrade on what we have. Now if old Billy Beane Hill can unearth the next Messi by the end of tomorrow we might win a few games this season.

Just seen Hilly's pre-match prezzer. Describes the newbie as being a "Rolls Royce". Built for comfort rather than speed then?

Discussing this in the office the other day. It's taken to mean a rather large but smooth and classy player, when if it were more accurate it would mean an overpriced show-off that will cost a fortune to keep running... let's hope not!Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 4:42 pmJust seen Hilly's pre-match prezzer. I saw him in the bogs at Fanny's last night.
In other news, Verlinden isn't coming back, but there's a chance Bridcutt will.

Basically Bridcutt wants to play football - he would rather it wasn’t here, but he will if he has to. Can’t argue with that!
