Onwards and Downwards: 2020 transfer speculation thread.

Post by mullayo » Sun May 05, 2019 12:02 am

We've been relegated after half a season of pushing shite uphill, and finally we can enjoy a bloody & good purge!
So who stays and who goes?

Slimy Andersons out of course and unsuccessful Parky as well.
Early doors fan favourite Pawel Olkowski has also abandoned our sinking ship by invoking a hastily scrawled relegation release clause (in Polish) on the bottom of his contract.

Last time we were relegated to League 1 we bounced right back. This time our right back has bounced leagues away along with any optimism we may have had... Or semblance of club infrastructure...

Oh well, on the positive side it should be a good chance to blood some youngsters... before being bullied into selling them off on the cheap...

OUTS
Deserters: Olkowski
Loanees returning: J Willliams, Connolly, Wildschut, Grounds,
Most of our 'youth movement' contracts (36-30 years-old) will naturally expire from old age:
Dyer, O'Neil, Donaldson,Taylor,Wilson, Wheater, Alnwick, Hobbs, Little, Noone,

KEEPS
The building blockheads who signed on for another season: Oztumer, Ameobi, Magennis, Murphy, Lowe, Matthews (25)

RE-SIGN?
YOUFS : Connell, Turner, Pritchard, Brockbank, Earing, Muscatt, Hall
Under-30 out of contracts: Buckley (29), Beevers (29), Vela (25),

OVERALL: Ameobi should tear league 1 up. If we keep him. Same for Connell. There is a gulf between the playing styles of Oz and SAmeobi versus Lowe, Magennis and Murphy that we need to resolve. Murphy also needs to get fit.
A lot of wages will come off the books so there should be less bitching when we don't pay them... But our budget should still be as tight as a gnat's nice person and we'll be perusing the frees again.
Otherwise who is worth re-signing from this lot?

I'm expecting all the players to hand in their notice after today's game.

Judging by the votes on this poll:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26942
...not many. Wheavers and Vela, maybe Little.

Small point: Remi Matthews is contracted for next season.

Another point: if Ken’s so kanny, did he include relegation pay-cuts or even release clauses?

I'm OK with Matthews between the sticks at that level. I'll edit the brave fools list. Gone from the Forlorn Five to the Stupid Six

I doubt smash and grab Ken planned for another year - apart from just not paying people and blaming caterers

Which of the Youf could likely do a job at League 1?

The entire squad will be gone. PP said most had offers from other clubs.

Shit show. Rats from a sinking ship.

Anyone who didn’t start today has to be off, surely. Slight twinge of disappointment about Ameobi, Beevers, Wheater and Alnwick as they would be decent at that level. But are any not replaceable?

Also sad to see a Vela fail to fulfill his potential with us. That ones down to Parky.

I would be happy if Wheater stayed.... remember he played for us for free.. and I think he would be a great league 1/northern premier league defender.
I'm also partial to Vela... (I remember his tears when that asrsehole Freedman wanted rid - there is a good player in there somewhere)
We also have some great youth.... Brockbank, Earing, Hall, Pritchard, Connell..
We just need to sort our selves out financially
I've put a tenner on the lottery this weekend..... as I hope lots of you have too
I'd have no problems splashing it on the Wanderers...... like a lamb to the slaughter.... But I'm 40+ years in.... and beyond hope now !!

Bolton Wanderers: Remi Matthews; Harry Brockbank, Jack Hobbs, Jonathan Grounds, Andrew Taylor; Callum Connolly, Gary O’Neil, Joe Pritchard; Craig Noone, Will Buckley; Josh Magennis

Substitutes: Ronan Darcy, Chiori Johnson, Jack Earing, Jake Turner, Erhun Oztumer, Mark Little, Clayton Donaldson.

Worryingly, of the six under contract players (Oztumer, Ameobi, Magennis, Murphy, Lowe, Matthews ), only Matthews and Magennis started...
Meanwhile Oz was still relegated to the bench (unused sub with Pritchard replaced by Earing) which is ominous for us keeping him. Likewise with Little.
Chicken legs Sameobi has likely flown the coop too.
Wheavers and Wildschut were a no-show too. Goneski like Olkowski?
Where were captain fantastic Lowe and Murphy? Injured or signing on elsewhere? Probably the dole.

Your Bolton Wanderers circa 2020 + 12 pt deduction:
GK: Matthews, Turner
RB: Brockbank
CBs: Not Wheavers
LB: Chiori Johnson
RW: Ronan Darcy
LW: LOANEE
AM: Pritchard, Earing
ST: Magennis

Anyone notice a big gap where he plays yesterday? Mind the door...

Clear the decks. I'm supportive of the stance the players took. Too many folks forgetting that Contracts work both ways. One condition is player plays for Club. Another condition is Club pays player. Can't crticise one not happening whilst the other isn't happening either.

Shame this one - another academy product on the left for not enough cash list. Parky couldn’t work out how to use him to the best of his abilities.

I've always suspected Vela couldn't work out how to use himself to the best of his abilities. Did well at league one level but has never lived up to expectations.
Be interesting to see where he ends up. He needs a fresh start I think.

This hasn't been so much a players coming in speculation thread as players going out rumours.
Really sad. Has anyone ever had a clearout like this?
When all's said and done we may not have enough for a five-a-side... Against another team...
I doubt we'll see any action whatsover until we get an owner. A REAL one.
We're basically free to a good home at this stage. League 1 with 4 or 5 disgruntled players, we're worth nowt.

Don't blame the players. Didn't get paid they can feel free to quit.

I disagree with that. Let's not forget, Freedman didn't want to know and Lennon played him at right-back. Parky was the one who first pushed him up into the space between the midfield two and the centre-forward, where his energy was very effective both in linking up the attack and in closing down the opposition.

I really liked him as a player but, honestly, it was only during that recent spell playing further forward that he's had a noticeable impact on our results. Clearly, something's gone wrong this season, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's been a fall out, but then again Connolly and Williams had formed a fairly good partnership in the middle lately and with O'Neil being involved as well and the emergence of Connell as a first-team player, it's perhaps easier to understand how he lost his place. He's certainly capable as a midfield runner in the right system though, and a new club might have the same effect for him as it did for Nolan.

OK - Parky pushed him up into his ‘proper’ position but he’s fecked up with him this season. He was vice captain at the start of the season, captained us at least once then he disappeared.

In fairness to both Vela and Parky, I think it probably helped that he was previously playing with better players around him, but there were certainly matches this season where he was the only one harassing and harrying the opposition defence with any intensity. If he's the only one doing it, it becomes practically pointless. I can't blame Vela if he got frustrated with that.

I think the clear out will be a bonus for new owners once the financial issues have been dealt with. No lingering Ben Amoses etc.
Lots to do before anything starts being seen as a bonus if course.
