Should they stay or should they go? Summer 2020 edition
Might as well start in now on the rapidly becoming traditional discussion of which folk whose contracts are up this summer we should try to keep for next season. This would presumably be in addition to Harry Brockbank, Ryan Delaney, George Thomason and Mo Faal (contracted to summer 2021) plus Liam Edwards and Dennis Politic (summer 2022).
Usual rules - you can vote for as many or as few as you like, and you can change your mind at any point. Poll ends Jun 30, the traditional last day of a player's contract. Feel free to discuss your thoughts (as we won't see individual votes).
For the record, loanees Nsiala, Bryan, Fleming and Georgiou are all contracted to their parent clubs for another season, to summer 2021; it looks like Hamilton might be a free agent. Oh and I'm not sure on the last name's contract situation.

DMurphy Darcy Crawford Mellis Matthews Lowe Bunney.
Mellis and Bunney just out of curiosity, Matthews I think isn't great but still relatively inexperienced. Get someone else in to challenge him and let Pollitt work on him. Can't be easy with that team in front of you.
Reminds me of uni 5 a side games when one of our defenders would pop off for a fag break and you just hoped you weren't in goal for those few minutes.

It's saying something that despite ticking several boxes, I still couldn't bring myself to tick Luke Murphy's, for a go in the 4th division. I'm undecided on Hill too so he didnt get one either.
Matthew's (but as per LE, I'd want him to have a serious challenger or we let him go)
Emmanuel
Zouma
Bunney
Bryan
Lowe
Mellis
Hamilton
Crawford
Darcy
Dodoo
O'Grady
D Murphy
I think Dodoo, Darcy, Lowe, Crawford, Hamilton and Bryan are all likely to have other options at L1 level.

Who I voted to keep: Matthews, Emmanuel, Bryan, Fleming, Bunney, Lowe, Hamilton, Mellis (court case permitting), Crawford, Darcy, O'Grady, Daryl Murphy
Who I expect we'll keep: Matthews, Hobbs, Bunney, Lowe, Luke Murphy, Hamilton, Mellis (court case permitting), Dodoo, O'Grady

Matthews - if he goes, we'll miss his shot-stopping more than his erratic decision-making
Emmanuel - better going forward than back, and he should be doing more of the former in D4. Needs competition tho
Bunney - done nowt wrong! Like Emmanuel can also play further forward, so that's flexible
Lowe - might get other offers but seems rooted to Lancashire. Hill loves him.
Hamilton - there's a player there, if we can polish and harness it
Mellis - short-term contract until his court case. Prove yourself and win another.
Crawford - would expect D3 offers but I'd ask anyway
Darcy - sign on, son
Dodoo - I mean he's no Cruyff but useful for D4?
DMurph - Doubt he'd take the league or wage but again, no asky no getty
Hill - just about, for now, but I'm not confident.

Heh, lol on Hobbs and Luke Murphy - like you, for me it's time to move on but I guess we will ask. That said, Hill didn't like Luke early on.nicholaldo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 2:42 pmWho I voted to keep: Matthews, Emmanuel, Bryan, Fleming, Bunney, Lowe, Hamilton, Mellis (court case permitting), Crawford, Darcy, O'Grady, Daryl Murphy

Kean Bryan I haven't seen enough of, but I wouldn't be against a year's loan to prove himself and possibly earn a permanent move - by the time that hypothetical year's loan ended, we'd be out of embargo and maybejustmaybe having turned the corner.
Hamilton's on course for two relegations from it in one season! But I agree for the others.Harry Genshaw wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 1:50 pmI think Dodoo, Darcy, Lowe, Crawford, Hamilton and Bryan are all likely to have other options at L1 level.

Re: Should they stay or should they go? Summer 2020 edition
I think people recognised last season, we were a bit shit. We still won 8...This year we're stuck on 5 at the minute. You'd hope to win a couple in spite of the manager...about the only one I might think of keeping probably Crawford. We should then try and sign 10 matching gingers.
Maybe with Dodoo, Darcy and Lowe...but not sure I'd lose sleep

And in a worse league, albeit with worse players.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 4:10 pmI think people recognised last season, we were a bit shit. We still won 8...This year we're stuck on 5 at the minute.
Of the eight wins last year, three came in the first four games. Which means we've had 10 wins in 72 league games (and yes, I'm including the Brentford home game, which was its own very special victory-avoider)

Hands up who voted for Luke Murphy??
I actually think the poor lad has fallen out with football, he’ll disappear after we release him. Mentally he is shot. Footballwise, he ain’t anything. Can’t tackle, pass, shoot, not the fittest. One of the most disappointing players we have ever had.

I voted for Anthony Georgiou. All I know about him is that he's here on loan from Spurs, but he was the only one with no votes and it looked a bit mean

Quick nudge for this, as we're expecting the released/retained list to go live in the next day or two. Remember that anyone released is still able to come back if the new gaffer (whoever it is) like the cut of his jib.
Re: Should they stay or should they go? Summer 2020 edition
If we could keep any of Crawford, Matthews and Lowe that would be amazing, but I expect all of them to have offers from League 1 clubs. Of the rest I'd take Emmanuel, Bunney, Dodoo and possibly Zouma.

Aye - and I suppose it's up to the new gaffer how much of his wage bill he'd try to tempt them with.

Ethan Hamilton has been released by the Rags – along with Aidan Barlow, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Alex Fojticek, Dion McGhee, Demetri Mitchell, Kieran O’Hara, Largie Ramazani and George Tanner, if anybody knows them
And if anybody knows them, it should be Phoenix - this kind of released list from nearby Big Clubs should be prominent among the sweep of players we should be checking out

Reading that list made me laugh. Largie Ramazani next to George Tanner. Feels like 4 generations apart.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 6:10 pmI think we should sign Largie Ramanzi...just because

Yep, these are exactly the types we should be checking out. The big academies regularly release players who go on to be stars of the football league, and we should absolutely be looking to cultivate a reputation as the north west's premier destination for the best cast-offs.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 4:50 pmEthan Hamilton has been released by the Rags – along with Aidan Barlow, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Alex Fojticek, Dion McGhee, Demetri Mitchell, Kieran O’Hara, Largie Ramazani and George Tanner, if anybody knows them

I wouldn't hesitate to bring Hamilton back if he was up for it.
