Not surprised. The Twitterati have taken it with great humour.

Mansfield groundsman had a wet benny last week when the ref called it early. As noted, you can't win in these situations.
Aye. I once read a gag that had me off my seat clapping – "I hope the guy who invented USB slots gets out of bed on the wrong side. Every day."Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 6:40 pmWill still take me three attempts, despite the fecking things only going in in one of two waysBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 6:16 pmHope the new lads have the new USB 3.0 slots. Content upload is much faster with those.

They did an inspection at 12:30 and called it borderline then. So with the forecast as you say being "not good", it was probably fairly obvious...BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 6:52 pmI’m guessing pitch was playable at lunch time...but forecast was not good. If they call it then and rain isn’t too bad they get hammered. If they don’t call it and rain is bad and game is called off they get hammered.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 6:03 pmBaffles me. We're sat here with zero special insight saying things like "not sure this will be on" and they make us travel before making a decision they could probably have called three hours back.
Evatt in his piece seems annoyed they called the game off based on a forecast last week but also annoyed they didn’t do the same this week. Can’t really win here I don’t think. Can only decide state of pitch once if becomes unplayable.

Salford’s game called off as well, so no extra advantage now.

Yeah of course. But Evatt says they called it off unnecessarily early last week because it was warmer than forecast. Yet today they waited to see....I agree common sense would have been to call if at lunch but then had rain not come.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 7:08 pmThey did an inspection at 12:30 and called it borderline then. Let’s face it they did what we would - saw who we signed yesterday and tried to get the game on!

He's so fuming he's invoked the ghost of Michael Fish.

I read in the paper that Bolton were due to stay in a hotel. At effing Mansfield?? It's not far away from being a local derby, get there in, what, two hours at most?? Next time Bolton plead poverty...
“We incur costs for the hotel, travel all the way down here and it’s called off. It isn’t acceptable behaviour and I don’t know who is to blame but it isn’t good enough.

Could be wrong but I think they might stay at the Whites Hotel the night before games at home or shortish away (eg Mansfield). Presumably they get mates' rates but it still costs in bedsheets, coffee etc.Aanvalluh wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 3:12 pmI read in the paper that Bolton were due to stay in a hotel. Heh. Well, we'll see about that as Mansfield, who have now postponed today's home game, is evidently the new Atlantis.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 5:31 pmWe’ll play when we want has quickly become we’ll play you next week cos we have to really.

I'll always have a soft spot for Mansfield Town; softer even than their pitch after drizzle. When I was about 9, my mate and I went through the Observer's Book of English Football Clubs and wrote off to several clubs asking them to send us their players autographs. The only one single club to respond with a sheet baring all their players autographs was Mansfield Town. This, I find, always makes it a little more bearable whenever they beat us - even when they beat us at Burnden in the semi final of the Freight Rover Trophy back in 84, thus denying me the possibility of a first ever trip to Wembley to watch the whites, bless 'em

One of my best mates at college was a Stags fan so I saw them a couple of times with him. He remembers that cup game you recall, Bruce - apparently our fans had put through every window on the fans’ coach while it was parked behind the Embankment, leading to a chilly ride home...

Au contraire. I'm lightly amused by Worthington's signature envy. Worthington's bitter? Well, you are what you drink.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 10:11 pmNice one. Bruce is crying now.Worthy4England wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 4:29 pm^^ They were all forged by Edna in the booking office.
For a while I also traded with a former Chairman of Mansfield Town, a fascinating chap and most incredible raconteur who at the time owned a chain of motor accessory stores. Meetings would be chiefly spent sat at the board room table drinking tea and eating biscuits with me listening like an excited child as he told tales of his run-ins with irate supporters, his appointment (and subsequent sacking) of Stuart Boam as manager, the time he turned up unannounced at a training session, the one game for which he was left to pick and manage the team himself and many more. We shall drink again, Lever End, and I shall enjoy sharing these tales and more with you. Worthington's not invited though, for he is a fu-ckin' c*nt!
