After that 5-1 los at Port Vale the manager made four changes and they won 1-0 at Newport with a deflected free-kick. According to their own site's report, "after a goalless first-half bereft of chances, a foul on Timothee Dieng on the edge of the area allowed the full-back a strike at goal which took a wicked deflection off the wall to deceive Nick Townsend and put Southend in with a chance of a vital three points. Blues had to ride their luck late on as Newport threw everything forward in search of an equaliser with Josh Sheehan and Nicky Maynard having huge chances go begging." At Cambridge (0-0) they didn't have a shot on target.LeverEnd wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 1:08 pmI thought that because I remembered them winning at Newport and they got a draw at Cambridge. Prior to that they had an absolute botty spanking at port vale and three consecutive home defeats. Let's hope the last two were a blip.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:05 amHad some good results recently Southend. Think we might be a bit fatigued. Be interesting to see what he does with the team. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was a draw.
Before that trio of home losses they also won four successive home games, 1-0, 3-1, 2-0 and 1-0 - the 3-1 was against 24th-placed Grimsby, the second 1-0 the Barrow side they're hoping to catch.
As Tango says, we need to start fast and get a goal. And then continue fast and get another.

Individually, this looks a very strong side....as a team, time will tell ? A lot may well depend on how strong Southend defence are. COME ON YOU WHITES...!

I'd say this team is as strong as it possibly could be.
If Southend go for us then they could be in serious trouble on the break.
I doubt this and see it being a day of trying to break them down.
Just want them to turn up.

That's the thing. Even little things like Evatt joking in press conferences - not exactly groundbreaking insight but it's just a different atmosphere altogether when we're winning. I've missed it and I want more and I'm frightened of it leaving.

No GK on the bench. Evatt loves to role the dice. If I were Southend Manager I would tell my players to take a card to hurt Gilks early in a set play. Crazy!

The physical team sheet Iles has tweeted has a GK after Jackson so it must be him

It may be that we're not supposed to wear white underarmour cos we have blue sleeves, or some such nonsense.Bruce Rioja wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 3:04 pmWhat's that fecking nonsense about? Southend players are wearing blue skins
Re: Going South (end)? Not us. Southend v Bolton Sat 20th Feb 3-0.
Some strange behaviour with regards to the under garments? Not entirely sure why that needs flagging from the referee but it seems Delfouneso had to do it aswell.
Fingers crossed.
Nice to see Sarcevic back in contention.

He's still whining at John for it. Fecking jobsworth. It's easier for them if they're white than blue anyway!
