They weren't saying that earlier in the season. Fookin plastic bindippers!

The real real big trick now is to back this up at Grimsby on Saturday. In a way this doesn’t mean much if we go up there and don’t do the business.

Win the next two and we have a nice buffer for the Morecambe game. Win the next two and we are very nearly there I’d say.

I won't claim I never thought we'd concede but I'd have tonight's win down as one of our very best without question. Any performance has to be measured against sternness of the test faced and tonight was one of the toughest this league has to offer - it's not for nothing they were previously unbeaten at home this season.

My guy feeling is we will be catchable by the time of that match. Just can’t see this one being over before that last game.

How can you say that? It means three precious points won away against a form team unbeaten at home till tonight. That's what it means surely?

Good job 'nall

Great win, Evatt can have the rest of the season for me.

Coldest I've been watching the Whites since Stelios winner v derby in the noughties.

Of course but Grimsby would be a game in the run in you’d have down for 3 points. Win there and we are looking very good indeed.

I don't disagree particularly but have a fookin day off, mate. Last I looked Grimsby lost 1 in 6.

Four points clear, five games left.

Morecambe can only get 81pts, Tranmere 80 - and that’s if they suddenly find form they haven’t had for months.

Notwithstanding goal difference - and we’re better off there than the two teams chasing us - then we need 11pts from 5 games. WDWDW, or WWWWL.

And with every point they drop - and they’re dropping PLENTY - our job gets easier.

Enjoy, people. You’ve earned it.

So 3 wins so long as we don’t lose to Morecambe?

not quite that simple cos Tranmere could still get to 80 - although perhaps not by then. They’ve also got Spearing banned after tonight’s red.

If we draw at Morecambe, they can only get to 79; if we beat them, they can only get to 78. And if we win the two games before then, we’d be on 76 at kickoff...

Tranmere might get to 80...I suspect unlikely though.

What’s the lowest total needed to finish third in last decade or so?

84/5pts is typical for third but Pott Vale in 2013 and Wycombe in 2008 both went up with 78. Over the same period, two teams (inc Bury a couple of years ago) have gone up as runners-up with 79.

Also means we could lose at Grimsby but no body could catch us on the day. So means quite a lot! 4 point cushion as in-form team is massive.
Let's not lose at Grimsby though!

Great result. Wasn't confident but sounds thoroughly deserved.

Also the two above us are well within our sights now, Cambridge's remaining fixtures are not exactly a walk in the park. Cambridge are at Newport this weekend whilst we are at Grimsby. Cheltenham seem to have the easier run in.
I still believe 3 wins from 5 will do it.
