I'd be tempted to take a punt on Zach Clough. Has shown he can perform at that level but hasn't worked out for him. Maybe landing somewhere where he loves and would be appreciated would help.
Good god no. The lads 26 and has played 71 games. Since leaving us permanently in 2017 he's managed 23 starts at 4 different clubs (including his loan spell here) and all this during the peak years of his career. Wish him all the best but there isn't a single good reason to sign him - if you took any other player with these statistics you'd say no way jose. We're not a charity or a place for sentiment.

I love Zach but not for me. And he needs to go somewhere where he will be first choice week in, week out, and I don't think that's here.

Yeah he doesn't fit in the system we play. Don't know where he'd go tbh. I'd say he either needs a side willing to play him off a striker or in a 4-3-3 system similar to how Parky played him with Ameobi. But I just think he's one of those who has lost his way but probably didn't have enough to really be confident he'll find it again.

A comment in B.N is indicating Dapo has signed a new contract?

Ahhh just seen the comment it's on the Isgrove story. I suspect we can't sign him until after 31st May which is when his contract expires.

Ah, that most rock solid of sources: the comments section on the Bolton News. 😂

No thank you Mar. Was a wonderful youth talent and we love him but he hasn't shown that he can make the cut in the League.

In the spirit of fence sitting and making no bones about it.

21 goals in 59 appearances across Champo and L1 is a pretty good return, half of which were at a higher level than L1. Not an indication that a player couldn't make it at the level we're talking about. He only got 1 in 9 on his return, to a Club that was on it's arse. He clearly didn't have a good time at Forest, before loaning out to two teams in the lower reaches of League 1, one of whom, were in the same sort of turmoil as us when he returned.

To give that some context, Big Ricky has played about the same number of games in L1 as Clough (63), Gethin Jones has played less, Isgrove a few more...

I'm not sure I'd have him back here without trial etc. but I wouldn't entirely write him off yet, as I've not seen enough of his performances elsewhere to understand whether he's hit a brick wall...

Whatever the merits of bringing Clough back, I really can't see Evatt going down that path. He seems extremely keen to put distance between his new Bolton and the trauma-ridden club of the post-Prem years.

Trial would definitely help.

Kevin Davies prior to signing for us had got 13 goals in 5 seasons (133 games). Players performing badly can still be worth the risk. He's only 26 and has plenty of time. He's performed well for us previously and has the support of the fans. IIRC Parky didn't want him at the club and he was signed to appease the fans given that Madine was sold. AFAIK Clough loves the club and it seems like a mutually beneficial relationship. He wouldn't need a bedding in period as I suspect he still lives in the area and has friends.

On second thoughts, it might mean he's signed a new contract with West Ham...

EDIT

Confirmed now

Great news on re-signing Dapo. Had my concerns he might've been tempted elsewhere and i'm sure he would've had plenty of offers. Lovely.

I was always completely confident in Dapo coming back and John. Gone a bit quiet on Declan I have to admit but hopefully just a question of time.

Dapo signing is great news. Hopefully he'll score sooner next season than the last game!
