The suggestion seems to be that he's a big name and now we have confirmation he's a defender.

Surely a full-back?

A few people guessing it’s Eric Lichaj. Nixon tweeted this yesterday

Perhaps it is him, but I don't know if I'd consider him a "very interesting" name.

I'm going to pretend it is Sofiane Alakouch, just because it's more fun and I'd like a right back who could rip teams apart at this level without breaking a sweat.

Ultimately, Nixon has narrowed the field to any defender in Europe - so have at it.

Ramos is free.

That it's going to lose its mind

I think Veloso might have dropped back a little from midfield and has played at left back. Cover for John, with experience and we finally land him. Only 35.

Can you imagine? The hilarity. Comes in for a trial and Evatt says no and that it would be ‘putting a tiara on a shire horse’.

That could be a superb signing, to be honest. We need someone to compete with Williams for that holding role and he can also cover centre back. Leadership, experience and possible coaching addition later on - which Jags has spoken of.

Would he get a work permit now as he hasn't represented his country since 2017???

He'll have settled status.

Nixon is saying it is Jagielka.

If Jagielka plays in our second home game, against Lincoln, we could all wish him a happy 39th birthday.

39.

Sure he's a top lad and all that but I'm not seeing how this works with budget, with the XI, with owt really.

But then, I haven't got two promotions in two years on my CV.

Another link to a player mentioned previously in this thread.

Tshimanga from Boreham Wood. FLW usually reliable so sounds like solid interest.
Iles: "not to be the trampler of transfer speculation - but told there has been no offer made to Kabongo Tshimanga"

Iles is saying it's just a favour, letting him train with us.

Like I say, I think we need competition for Williams but didn't expect to get it. I'd see him as a good addition.

See, the first thing I thought when I saw Jagielka's name mentioned was/is that Evatt's determined that we'll play with three CB's again - a system which served us so poorly for a half a season last time out and brought out the very worst of Santos.

Whether we sign PJ or not, Evatt's predilection for playing three at the back still worries me. That said, and as pointed out by DSB, I too don't have two promotions in two seasons on my CV.

I have no doubt Evatt still sees 3-at-the-back as an entirely viable system. I don't think he plans to play it as our regular style, but who knows.

Don’t care how old Jags is. He’d add something we haven’t got. A physical and experienced centre back. I’d have him any day of any week. Obviously prove his fitness first though. Shame we went for Aimson. Jags would have been a great get for fourth CB.
