Lots of talk that we are signing Xavier Amaechi on loan. Gotta love twitter - first tweet you see this morning about this is 'wow what a footballer definitely going up with this quality'. Then same tweeter a minute later asks 'is he any good?'.

Sums up football for me these days. Never heard of him before - been on loan in German second division apparently but appears to have not settled there at all. A winger.

Amaechi is a player I know from youth level. I don't know anything of his time in Germany, but he's a hell of a signing if we have got him in and I think he's in the last year of his contract. If he has developed in Germany, even if it's not enough to stake a claim at Hamburg, he will be a very serious player in League One.

Quick, good off both feet (but mostly a lefty), picks a pass, excellent dribbler etc. Can play on either flank or as a '10', but for the youth side was definitely best out wide.

No telling what he is like now, but that's an exciting signing. He is also good from dead ball situations.

I'm delighted to see we are (possibly) also in for Tshmanga, as I think we need the sort on the books.

That'd be three forwards brought in, all of whom have pace. Evatt saw the issue we had and is fixing it. Delighted.

Reading between the lines of Lee bowyer's comments Maddison was struggling at Charlton and got written off as a mard arse. We seem like the only club that has given a shit about him.

Yeah, I'd say that if you're a player needing to 'reach out', the last people in the whole of English football that you're likely to get a professional, understanding, empathetic, humane response from will be either Lee Bowyer or Joey Barton.

Craig McGillivray has signed for Charlton. I understand budgets etc, but I feel that's a miss. He's a good player. Between him and Dixon, I know who I am taking all day long. Same with Gilks.

I am prepared to eat my words this season.

My guess is that agents are probably prickly about reports their players are 'on trial' - when its not the case. But who knows?

I'm fairly confident the Amaechi deal is happening, given that his agent was asked whether he was bothered by reports saying he was at Bolton or by them suggesting he was on trial and he said the trial detail was the issue.

Given that the Germans are reporting it and Iles will have asked before saying it looks like happening, I'd be surprised if it didn't go through.

Yes it appears so - apparently someone on social media who knows him has asked him and has posted some message trail that as far as I can tell near enough confirms it - hell of a signing this (even on loan), looks to be very highly rated according to some messages & reports that I've seen today (apparently some of the major European teams wanted him a couple of years ago), admittedly though I had never previously heard of the lad.

Lets hope that it happens.
