Sorry to piss on the bonfire but the ship has set sail. I wouldn't want any player from the previous 10 years. It's been fecking arduous.

Yesterday felt like the cast had been taken off and we started walking again.

There are some excellent players in that list DSB but it'll just reignite memories of old. We don't need that as a club.

Alex Baptiste says hi. The right player with the right attitude and who improves us it doesn’t matter. Not sure there are many if any in that category from that list like but still.

Never really my favourite player, but someone on DSB's ex-Wandering Dole Scum list who's caught the eye recently is Josh Magennis. I'd really like to see someone like him playing just behind Doyle. There be goals between 'em right there and a torrid time for defenders, I reckon.

He's the SORT of striker we need. Also the sort of 'striker' we absolutely should not touch with a bargepole. If you get my drift....

I agree that most of the players we had previously won't be Ian Evatt types and we should instead look forward to seeing some new talent at the MacroBol. (As an aside, I hear on the grapevine that UoB used protected funds to pay for the stadium naming rights so would expect they’ll be required to cancel that deal for next year).

Anyway, the one player I would have back from the past few years is the LWB we had from Stoke on loan. He could really do a job with Dapo and John.

Thibaud Verlinden - superb for us; not sure he's done much since going back to Stoke.

I'd certainly have thought he's Evatt's 'type'.

He broke into Stoke's 1st team, suffered an injury and then had a mutual contract termination

He's playing in the Eredivisie for Fortuna Sittard now

Didn't work hard enough from what I remember to play in an Evatt side. Quick and tricky but I rather suspect a flash in the pan type. The few players from that team that looked good, your Crawfords, Darcy's etc all seem to have fallen by the wayside under IE.

You have to remember Keith Hill was Verlindens manager. Evatt seems to get the best out of players - Gethin Jones I think is a prime example.

I wonder about Elbouzedi as he had the raw attributes. Seemed to struggle with decision making but if you can work on that...

Crawford? Darcy? I suspect Keith Hill played in a way to suit those players whereas IE for all the beautiful game talk approaches games off the ball in quite a Sam Allardyce or Parky way with numbers behind the ball, wingers doubling up and a very hard structure to break down - this means a lot of work so not convinced by Verlinden really fitting what we do now.

Crawford looked good for a few months. He’s not done anything at their place and he underwhelmed here for half a season. Odd one. Darcy to me feels unlucky not to get more game time before Christmas but he wasn’t ousting anyone after January. But yeah point taken, all players play differently for different managers.

I don't think we need to look much further than our own recent experience to note that sometimes players play differently under the same manager.

Crawford looked awful in a bad Bolton team whose formation and personnel dictated he was more or less the only creative fulcrum, but he could be very different in a good Bolton team playing 4-2-3-1. I'm not saying he *will* or indeed that we shouldn't look to move him on, like, but it's not impossible.

At a guess I would say he was one who suffered through lockdown - supposedly spent a lot of time driving back up north. I reckon he will be released - Carlisle?

We have a nucleus of players who understand Evatt's methods so anyone who comes in should improve us in those positions which need strengthening. Looking forward to this discussion, but it seems to me that as we step up in Divisions, the pace of the game gets quicker. So in my opinion, we should be shopping after Championship players out of contract (eg. like we did with Lee, Johns etc..) to improve us, and who have played at that pace.

Based on the earlier list of former players posted, I am not in favor of bringing any of those back. That ship has sailed and I can't see how they would improve us, plus there are better players out there I am sure. Looking forward to Politic lighting up L1. An exciting player.

Out of contract, mature championship players is a good shout but with an eye still on the moneyball approach I'd like to see us looking closely at released youngsters from both that division and the Premier league.

Discovering another Robinson or Armstrong, and actually having a manager who can get the best out of them, is the best bet to boost our finances.

Don’t think you will hear the word moneyball mentioned. That went out the window with Tobias.

Aye, I dare say we'll not hear the term but the principle remains the same. We need to develop and sell on, young talent. Compare our situation when we were relegated from the Championship, with Wigan. Our few saleable assets left for free unpaid. They had several millions worth of talent who they had developed that they had to let go cheaply. We're a bigger draw than they are and we have to make sure we beat them in future to such players.

Said it before but one player I’d have back in the blink of an eye if there was any chance is Kioso. Salivating at the thought of John and Kioso as our full backs. Yes we’d be suspect defensively but we’d be exciting. Watched a bit of Pompey Accrington and I think we need some physicality adding to the side and Kioso is the sort who would fit that bill.

Here's a recently compiled list of Champo players whose contracts are lapsing – doesn't mean they won't be offered terms, or would be interested in dropping down a division. But it's a long summer ahead...
