Homecoming. Rovers (H) in pre-season, 31/07/2021, 3pm
This being a pre-season game, I know we don't usually do a match thread. But this feels bigger, somehow - our first home game with fans for nearly 18 months.
If information from Marc Iles is correct, we're expecting around 6,500-7,500 in attendance. I'll be one of those, and it's going to be especially poignant for me. My uncle, whom I attended pretty much every home game with for the last 20 years, sadly passed away in the absolute clusterf*ck that was 2020. I'm expecting today to be quite emotional.
Is anyone else going? What sort of squad will we see? What would be considered a good result?

Sorry to hear that, TW – for you and thousands of others, returning to the ground is a mixed feeling. Let's hope the good times can return.
On the pitch, I expect us to be as close to our first XI as possible, but COVID isolations have played havoc with that. We do have another friendly midweek, which was supposed to be an "XI" game but may include some lads fighting to prove themselves ready.

Sorry to learn that, TW; I hope you have the best afternoon you can.
Post match, can someone please share with the group as to what, if any, are the covid restrictions? I for one am at a loss.
Cheers.

Just decided to go to this after our original plans for the day were cancelled. No idea how many will turn up and whether there'll be enough turnstiles open. I see Sunderland had 4000 still outside for their friendly last night. Wigan didn't seem to have any issues with their game though
Should be a good test. Looking forward to it.

Here's the minutes played (excl injury time) in pre-season by the senior pros.
45 Gilks
94 Crawford
96 Politic
112 Aimson
113 Doyle
114 Comley
135 Johnston
135 Isgrove
181 Sarcevic
203 Santos
203 John
224 Tutte (half of those at centre-back)
236 Sheehan
247 Bakayoko
250 Lee
252 Brockbank
257 Baptiste
263 Delfouneso
265 Afolayan
268 Darcy
275 Jones
280 Williams
301 Thomason
315 Dixon
328 Gordon
Gilks, Isgrove and Johnston haven’t played since FC Rags, a fortnight ago. Doyle’s only appeared twice. Only Dixon, Brocky, Gordon, Williams and Tutte (at centre-back) have played a full game.
Given we can only make three subs this season, I would expect several players to last the distance – perhaps John, Doyle, Isgrove if available, possibly Sarce and Sheehan. Given the relative absence thus far of Aimson and Johnston, plus Santos’s foot injury, it’ll be interesting to see who’s at centre-back. Might we see Baptiste with Senior?

no Doyle, no Santos but perhaps as close as we can get to the first XI. Johnston and Sheehan start.

Commiserations T.W.W. Hope things improve all round for you once the initial hurt passes. We have plenty history with Rovers and a win would be nice.

Johnston (effective at set pieces, for a dwarf) from a Sheehan corner

Half time, 1-0. We've been excellent - far and away the better team. Dixon has only had 1 save to make. Afolayan has their right back on toast. Sheehan looks a future captain. Playing some lovely football, and the goal came direct from a corner

Good half. Dapo is going to get some interest if he continues and scores goals.
Sheehan, got a pass in him.

Dapot has been immense. Long time since I've seen 1 player boss a game as much. Bakayoko is bloody quick too

Afolayan, possibly, altho it may go down as an oggie. If not, it's two in two for Dapo
