I've absolutely no idea if Barnsley will do anything good this season, but they were well backed and on the back of a great season, so for us to deservedly get through this tie against them, with players rested is very, very positive

Fecking ace that. Seriously great.

Think the next big question for Evatt is going to be whether Kachunga gets in ahead of Doyle or Dapo. Baka has to start. Bold to leave out all those goals from Doyle for last year. LW probably where Kachunga has played the least in the last few years, but interesting he's come on there both times.

Certainly augurs well for the rest of the season.
Sheehan - scores a worldie on debut then scores the winning penalty in his second match. Who was the last player to have such a (measurable) immediate impact?

Johnstone looks class, as does Sheehan. Lee played well but he's probably first reserve in there.
Didn't see any of MK beyond the highlights but tonight looked like 433 rather than 4231. MJ sitting and Lee and Sarc as 8s.

Agreed, we were the better side second half. The centre half partnership looks formidable and MJ was the best midfielder on the pitch. Looks promising.boltonboris wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:07 pmI've absolutely no idea if Barnsley will do anything good this season, but they were well backed and on the back of a great season, so for us to deservedly get through this tie against them, with players rested is very, very positive

Kach a ways off to my viewing. Needs to be fitter and stronger. But he will get there.Prufrock wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:11 pmThink the next big question for Evatt is going to be whether Kachunga gets in ahead of Doyle or Dapo. Baka has to start. I’m genuinely not convinced Sheehan should start instead of Lee, which says more about the strength in depth we have than anything else. Kachunga needs to be fitter.

I know Insano is at the game so what is this nonsense?officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:14 pmI’m genuinely not convinced Sheehan should start instead of Lee, which says more about the strength in depth we have than anything else. Kachunga needs to be fitter.

Great result and performance. Nice to have the squad to be able to make a few changes and not have a negative impact.
For totally selfish reasons, I'm praying for Newcastle away.

Just saying I can see a case for Lee to play cos I rate him! Sheehan look good, I don’t think he was quite on the same wavelength as the rest of the team on Saturday, but I’m nit picking. Midfield looks strong!

Terrific 2nd half. I've no idea what level Barnsley are at this season, but they were in the playoffs last time out so they must be at least half decent. And in that 2nd 45, we were better than them. Bakayoko made all the difference - such a boon to have a big, quick, strong lump up top to bring others into play. Fantastic to have options.
Agree re: Isgrove, who I thought looked pretty poor throughout. I was very impressed by Gordon, and by the centre-half partnership. Lots of reasons to be positive about the season ahead with performances like that.

Draw on Sky after the live game tomorrow. Regionalised again.
Hope we get a winnable one at home, not some boring but good team away.

Lee or Sheehan might be horses for courses. Sheehan seems to offer a bit more creativity, Lee more solidity.
Plenty other decisions to be made after tonight’s half-dozen changes.
Dixon (clean sheet, pen save) pressuring Gilks.
Two centre-backs from three.
John back in for Gordon but Flash will feel good.
Lee/Sheehan - as above.
Delf and Isgrove possibly not done enough to dislodge Dapo/Baka but we’ll see

I thought Isgrove was great tonight. Really busy, never gave them a minute and was a good outlet when not much had been sticking up top. Final ball needs some work but then that goes for the whole team really.
Johnston my MotM. Just ahead of Lee

If we do get am away draw, I'd like Harrogate or Barrow, since I missed out on those trips last year.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:43 pmNext round is the midweek between Oxford home and Cambridge away #varsity

You'll have to wait for Harrogate, they had to forfeit tonight's match vs Rochdale through Covid!LeverEnd wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:48 pmIf we do get am away draw, I'd like Harrogate or Barrow, since I missed out on those trips last year.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:43 pmNext round is the midweek between Oxford home and Cambridge away #varsity
