So Edwards and Senior can, and I presume will, be recalled today?

If that's the case then both will be in the squad for Saturday, and there must be a good chance Senior goes straight into the starting lineup.

Per this report last week they're still on loan this coming weekend.

Evatt confirms that Senior will come back after Saturday - but Edwards will stay out.

Liam will be staying on loan at Southport for the time being. The one position we are covered at the moment is centre-back. Adam can play in a few different positions, so he will finish his loan at York this week – he has a game Tuesday and Saturday – and after that he will be coming back to us.

...indeed, Liam Edwards has now extended his loan at Southport into January (8th). You have to imagine – with respect, perhaps even hope – that by the end of January he'll have been invited to stay there, or elsewhere not-here, until summer as we free up a squad space for a new face.

https://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/2021/decemb ... port-stay/

Buried in that story is the news that young defender Ryan Colvin – one of the four who signed their first pro contracts with us last season, along with goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson, winger Jay Fitzmartin and crocked forward Fin Lockett – has joined eighth-tier Prescot Cables, permanently. I don't know whether to be sad that one of our only four graduates has gone, glad that we're evidently not hanging about with players we don't think will make the grade, or indifferent: youth football is a cruel numbers game and most of them fail.

Blimey. They're in the same league as Colne, who one of the lads who works at our place plays for.
He's actually currently playing alongside Ryan Taylor who, he tells me, is still sooo far above that level he sticks out like a sore thumb.

Luke Hutchinson is back in the building.

Really positive reviews of his time there from fans.

Pulled off some terrific saves...

Fingers crossed he’s a good un!
Politic another assist yesterday, against a premier league side…

Aye, I hope we've offered Hutchinson a new deal (and that he signs soon), because I can't imagine there won't be other clubs sniffing around.

Politic unfortunately appears to be gone for good.

Gonna pop this here – it could be in the transfer thread, but might get lost, and this is a more focused thread.

It's a fascinating, in-depth interview with Huddersfield's head of football operations Leigh Bromby and loan manager David Fox, talking about how they view and use the loan system: youth development, choosing clubs, staying in contact, expectations, etc.

It's mainly about loaning out their youngsters but it also deals with loaning in players from above. It's not about Wanderers, but it's not a bad yardstick and worth a few minutes of your time. For a start, we might borrow players from Huddersfield - like Jacko last season. If we're to move on from window-to-window firefighting and develop the club, with proper development of youth prospects as either first-team fodder or sell-on potential, stuff like this will become increasingly relevant IMO.

Cheers for that mate, an excellent and informative article. In a way I think Evatt and Markham are trying to implement a similar system here judging by the way they have handled loans so far, which I think is the way forward, especially for a club like us and where we are at the moment.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

I enjoyed that, DSB, thanks. There was a bit of trade bullshit in there, but generally it was good.

We definitely need to have an holistic approach if we are going to be a successful development side and I think treating a loan players as though they were a transfer target for data purposes is a valid position.

Our relationship with City is going in the direction they talk about. We are invited to reserve and youth games and some of our staff have apparently done walk throughs of City facilities. It's important to have that access.

I'll read it again later.

Glad people liked it. Steven Chicken (yes, his real name) is a good, thoughtful, hard-working beat writer. Credit also to his interviewees here for their openness - and Steven for asking the right questions.

And aye, I'd be happy for us to follow a similar course.

The work suits him, though, as beat writers usually earn chicken feed.

As Ghost reported elsewhere, Senior's gone to Chorley for the rest of the season. They're in the National League North (tier 6), like his last loan destination York, but higher up the table – they're 5th, a place above Liam Edwards' Southport.

Adam got MotM in his first game for Chorley. Well done to him.

With the influx of new faces I can see Isgrove going out on loan when he's fit.

Very much doubt that he'd be loaned out given he's proved somewhat of an adequate replacement covering wingback positions as well as attacking positions. Only way I could see him being loaned out would be if he wasn't likely to be back in time for him to be registered as a squad player and he was back to fitness.
