Got the feeling he was gonna miss it before he took it. FFS.
This was a game that was a chance to give him a boost and its just not happened. Same as the last cup game.
At least he wasn't the only one who missed. Much harder to bear the burden on his lonesome.
Fingers crossed he comes good.

That last penalty is abysmal. Just sums him up of late, all the confidence in his ability then balloons it.

I guess when it gets to sudden death you are getting closer and closer to barrel scraping.
Saw his name come up though and all hope left me. It just keeps getting worse for the lad after a promising start.

Players will miss. England had two players who missed and they are worth thousands of times more than anyone we have.

Penalties are a lottery. lets move on. More interested in how the players who came into the starting line up do? Can any lay a claim to start next league game?

They aren't, to be fair. They're a test of nerve and technique.
It was inevitable we'd get beat after selling our allocation so quickly and the subsequent Twitter shenanigans. Not that it matters in the grand schemes of things, however. On we go.

I won't lose any sleep losing on pens in a nothing cup competition & it was a nothing game.
However it was no surprise that Delfouneso missed the crucial penalty - I suspect a lot of fans thought that he may miss, his heart just hasn't been in it since he had his child midway through last season for some reason, its a shame as he has talent but unfortunately he has quite a poor, lazy attitude & its probably best that he leaves in this window (btw this has nothing to do with the actual penalty miss as anyone can miss a penalty & there is absolutely no shame in missing a penalty).
He rarely celebrated any of our goals last season whilst on the pitch & apparently (I didn't go tonight) he just went down the tunnel without acknowledging the Bolton supporters, although this may have been due to disappointment ?
Personally I think that its better for both parties that he leaves in the next week or so, its a waste of a squad place & we may as well bring in a player who wants to play for the club.

They will miss and I suspect a big reason for that would be a mental thing. To put someone up for taking a penalty thats out of form and not looking confident is not a recipe for success at any stage in the penalty shootout, let alone the last penalty to be taken. That being said its somewhat of a lottery. If he puts it away then thats a boost, if not then another kick whilst he's down.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:57 pmPlayers will miss. Sadly today was the latter.

Well, we did by the rules of the competition. It was inevitable we'd fail to progress if you prefer.

Take the conjecture out, he’s lost form since midway through last season. But right now we aren’t in a position to lose him as even with him in the squad we are light in these areas due to injury. So being realistic he will be here this season. The best thing is to help build his confidence to recapture his old form.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:10 pmI won't lose any sleep losing on pens in a nothing cup competition & it was a nothing game.

Not sure where this whole 'nothing cup competition' comes from. I'd love to win this cup and i'd love to win the football league trophy. Yes this wasn't a final, but we're not going to do better in these tournaments by treating them with disdain.Bertie Wooster wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:10 pmI won't lose any sleep losing on pens in a nothing cup competition & it was a nothing game.

It comes from my personal opinion, there is not a chance that this current team / squad would have won the trophy - I prefer us to concentrate on the league.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:14 pmNot sure where this whole 'nothing cup competition' comes from. We didn’t treat it with disdain but the fact is we aren’t winning this. Another round against a big club would have been nice but also brings potential issues with injuries etc. So it’s not a disaster. I’d certainly far rather have lost tonight if we win Saturday.Mar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:14 pmNot sure where this whole 'nothing cup competition' comes from. Anyone can miss a penalty that’s true but Delfouneso shouldn’t have been anywhere near the team tonight in my opinion let alone taking a penalty. As a striker (reputedly) I suppose it should fall to him but his inept performances over the last 6 months or so should have ruled him out. It obviously didn’t but hopefully this will and if going out tonight is the price we pay for his exit, then so be it. Get rid before the window ends and replace him with someone who can contribute.
