Recipe for disaster: Don't take chances, give soft goals away, lose games. Simple.

If I were Ian Evatt I would be reminding this lot we can still sign frees after tonight and de register one of them.

There would be a much different reflection on the match had this gone into HT at 1-1. A few mistakes again and we're looking a little suspect.
We should win this one but going behind in this manner means that we're likely to see Port Vale having the option to get behind the ball and see out the win. Something we've had a problem with in the past.
What role is Thomason playing? Last season he seemed to be picking up the ball deep and spraying the ball long distances and linking the back to front. This match he just looks to be involved in very simple passes without really opening up the play. He's better than this showing.

Ball not sticking up top, distribution from the back even worse than the 1st half on Saturday. Gordon (& he's not alone) taking the safe option every time and looking for a short sideways or backwards pass. Possession based football is all well and good but you have to move it quickly and occasionally take a chance if you're going to get in behind them.

Actually not sure we can deregister after they've been registered. But we could make them wait.officer_dibble wrote: ↑Tue Aug 31, 2021 7:54 pmIf I were Ian Evatt I would be reminding this lot we can still sign frees after tonight and de register one of them.

Half time, 2-1. First 20 was all us in possession, without creating an awful lot. Vale have stepped it up in the last 15 and we haven't been able to deal. Two scruffy goals that we haven't kept out through our own ineptitude, defenders all over the shop. Attacking midfield trio haven't done enough, particularly Kacha and Delf, to get into the game. Isgrove runs and runs all day, but isn't producing enough and is frequently poorly positioned in attack. Not enough movement up top, too frequently we've run into good positions only to lose it because we've not released it early enough. Tons of work to do - must be better than this.

Cripes. Delf robbed, they're in the box and thankfully drag it wide.

I don't mind a bit of passion, it's what some players are routinely accused of lacking...
organisation would be good tho'

Delf is just a shadow of the player he was. Had enough chances this season.

Still sloppy.
Not keeping hold of the ball, hopeless punts up top/to the wings.

Great goal! Started with some nice play from Tutte, then Thomason, Doyle, Brocky and finally Izzy with the cross to the main man, Nathan Delfouneso.

Good end-to-end move*, driven on by Tutte, with Izzy cross nodded home at near post.
*Literally, it started with Santos dribbling calmly out of our six-yard box and ended with Delf nodding home in theirs.

Tutte was initially fed by Santos, and Kachunga was involved too. Just the eight players involved then...
