Great win. Musta been HG being a luck charm credit where it's due.
You're welcome :D

First half we looked vulnerable against their attack. 2nd half we could have had 7. Amazing day and a lovely touch at the end where we all did the tequila song and showed the love for Kerchunga.

20 years ago that I last saw us score 5 away! :pissed:

When the fourth went in kind of knew it wasn't to be, game over and the winless run would continue. Paul Cook lost his father a few days ago, he must be feeling it and with all due respect, he's not the name for us. Hasn't really performed since coming on board and simply not the one to get us out of this mess.

First Bolton win over us in the League for what 20 years, suppose it was worth the wait.

We were shit for the most part, played OK in bits but Walton had a debut to forget, Young once again made one error too many when on and while Bonne looks a good signing the rest of the squad just aren't playing as they should.

You're not the first team to embarrass us or make us look poor, you won't be the last. We'll get it right eventually, just don't know when or just how long it will take for things to work and come together. Probably be without Cook and another manager, I just can't admire his work here, it's poor, really nothing else to it.

Somewhat like Sunderland as you go through managers with good records elsewhere and nothing works you have to start maybe asking whether the manager is the issue….

Honest assessment from you there mate, and kudos for being sporting in defeat.

You're probably where we were at the start of last season. Nearly 20 new players, a raft of changes and styles and no clear identity with a new manager trying to impress a new identity upon you. We struggled on and off early doors last season and many in Bolton were quickly losing patience with Evatt. Then the January transfer window happened.

I don't know if you as a club should persevere with your manager or not as I don't know enough about your current set up to make comment.

But I wish you all the best and to keep the faith.
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!

And the key to a result is a good :kettle:

Forgot about that.
The most drunk I've ever seen anyone at a game was the 2000 playoff final Vs Watford. Guy in front passed out before kick off and I thought what a fool, he'll miss it all having paid out.
At the end I wished it was me who'd been unconscious for the whole game.

FWIW I'd stick with Cook if i had any say on it. As Sonic says, there are definite parallels with us last year. Half time could just as easily have been 3-2 as 2-3 and 1st half you looked a good side going forward. Cook's no mug, the board have backed him. Stick. For now..

I think that Doyle led the line brilliantly today.

Absolutely over the moon he's getting his goals too at this level. Long may it continue.

Dapo, Happy Birthday pal. Great again.

Doyle has played well for me this season. He’s obviously had Covid and it knocked him back. But he’s done really well with movement and running of the channels. Helps that our wide players are doing so well and keeping the ball themselves.

Well done team. Hard to find a better playing football team in the entire football league at the moment. We are really playing well. Credit to the Manager who have us playing at a high tempo and with confidence.

Agreed. His hold up play for Sheehan's goal today was first class. His own chance had gone but he unselfishly looked to play Sarc in instead.

Hi Bingo Bongo. Good to see you're still around. We neither embarrassed or outclassed you from what I can gather as I wasn't there, neither is correct, you just lost to a better side on the day. We've had our troubles as you well know, but we've had a bit longer to get settled than you under a new manager and players. "Embarrassed" makes it sound like you were beaten by an inferior team, which we're not, and we're far from Premier league standard to be outclassing many. It was just our turn on the day is all. Good luck for the rest.

Ha. Doyle isn’t really my sort of striker but I’ve been impressed this season. Like his attitude. He embodies the work rate our players put in.

Also very happy to have been wrong about IE the man is obviously growing as the job grows with him. As I said earlier this season I feel we are in special special territory now. A glorious journey is underway. White hot 2. MMW.

Time for Evatt's quotes.

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/1 ... wich-town/
I said to the players after the game and understand not that we have cracked it, but that if we stay humble and work hard, we have a good chance this year. We do have a chance. For now let’s enjoy ourselves, I hope the supporters do as well, but then back to work Monday ready for the next one.

I’m satisfied, it was alright [laughs]. It was very frustrating, Monday night, and our performance deserved that goal tally but we didn’t get it. But as I said in the press, when teams go toe-to-toe with us it is dangerous because we are a dangerous team. Now, we might be open and expansive and concede a few the other way but we can score goals.

MK Dons did, we scored three; Wimbledon did, we scored three; Port Vale did, we scored three. It's more difficult and challenging when teams sit in and play territory and set plays as we saw Monday.

That was exceptional and some of our goals were a credit to our football club and you won’t see many better outside of the Premier League.

Liam [Gordon] did really well. Wes Burns is an excellent player and caused us problems first half. Ipswich have got good players all over the pitch and they will cause problems because of how expansive we are with the ball. But the most important thing is that we look clinical and ruthless and can score at will at times.

An interesting tactical option for those home games where we struggle to break teams down now that Liam Gordon is proving to be a capable LB. Could we, or should we try John ahead of Gordon. John is our best crosser and our issue has been final ball. Obviously would mean moving Dapo somewhere because he’s first name on the sheet right now but it would get a born deliverer of the ball onto the pitch and might make a difference.

Hard to figure out how you’d fit everyone in but worth a thought? For games like Burton….

If ever a clear demonstration of the changing fortunes of our football club were needed it can be found in a comparison of today's result and the result the last time we played them.
